  • For the price, can't beat this lifetime replacement guarantee socket set.
Style: NEW 61 Piece Set
BEST THING ABOUT IT: lifetime exchange warranty! ADDITIONAL LIKES: metal hinge case, deep and regular sockets, sockets firmly lock into case WORST THING ABOUT IT: oversized case ADDITIONAL DISLIKES/CONCERNS: screwdriver is not ratcheting, omits 7/8’ and 13/16’ deep sockets WARRANTY: Lifetime exchange COMMENTS (Function, Appearance, Quality): I worked for Sears in high school and during my undergraduate studies in college. As a result, I was able to build for myself a very nice set of hand tools at a young age; taking advantage of sales and employee discounts. I love(d) Craftsmans hand tools. We all realize that through the years the brand has had varying suppliers and has changed hands some, as has their quality. One thing hasn’t changed (yet) though, and that is their outstanding warranty. A Craftsman hand tool breaks? You just take it to the store (though not Sears anymore) and they exchange it out for a new one. This of course, includes socket sets. So, I acquired this tool set as the primary set for the truck. This kit comes as described, so I won’t reiterate by listing each item included. It appears to be Craftsman’s latest addition of the 12-point socket set (socket numbers bare the same model numbers as previous years). Highlights include 10 deep metric sockets (11mm-19mm), 7 deep SAE sockets (3/8” - 3/4”), 10 metric standard depth sockets and 10 standard SAE socket (5/16” - 3/4”). The spark plug socket is a 5/8”. The slotted screwdriver bit set covers most common screw heads, but it does not ratchet which I find somewhat surprising (and disappointing). I do like the new ‘thinner’ ratchet as it allows me to get in tighter places. The socket walls are also thinner (see Photo Info below) raising the durability question. But again, it can easily be replaced, so unless it is a chronic problem, this is no cause for pause. MOST SUITABLE FOR: A starter socket kit or an extra set IS IT WORTH IT?: At <$1 each (61 items) with a lifetime warranty? Yes *PRECISE RATING: 4.5 (deductions for non-ratcheting driver and excessive amounts of plastic in the case) RECOMMENDATION: Can recommend this set for home/DIY use without hesitation. (As always, I will report back if there are any durability issues with additional use.) PHOTO INFO: 1) Unopen kit 2) Open kit displaying contents 3) Ruler showing case is 3” wide 4) Old vs new 72 tooth racthets with ruler 5) 3 previous Craftsman 1/2” sockets (top row) vs newest 1/2” socket (bottom) - note both middle sockeyt and lower (new) socket are the same model: 44333. On a personal note, I try to cover everything I think is important, so I hope you found something informative and useful in this review. Thank you for taking the time to read it. *Rating scale: 5 = definitely buy again, happy to have it (exceptional in several characteristics,) 4 = probably buy again (decent job of doing what I need, excels in one or two characteristics) 3 = perhaps buy again after researching options (functions OK, looks OK, decent quality, average life expectancy but no outstanding characteristics) (in other words, average) 2 = would not buy again (low end/below average merchandise and/or service, but not totally worthless) 1 = sorry I bought it the first time (poor performance in several characteristics, no redeeming characteristics) Characteristics considered: Presentation/Packaging, Quality, Craftsmanship, Materials, Functionality, Utility/Versatility, Instructions, Ease-of-Use, Comfort, Value. ... show more

  • Sockets too hard to get out.. Case too big
Style: NEW 61 Piece Set
The set is not balanced between the SAE and Metric sides.. In the shallow sockets, if you noticed, there are 10 SAE and Metric sockets each.. But when you get to the deep ones, they short out 3 of the deep well SAE sockets.. IF this was just a larger size, like 7/8" I would not think much about it.. But the smaller 5/16" is not there either, and that size I have used a lot in deep well over the years, so it makes no sense why they did not put that one in there.. All sockets are 12 point.. While 12 point do have their place, I would prefer that they had these all in 6 point, which will make it less likely to strip a nut or bolt out, and give you better grip.. This will be especially important for a worn, or rusted bolt.. The ratchet had decent clearances in it.. Since this set is made in Taiwan, when craftsman first started having their tools made over there, from here in the USA, I noticed that their tear drop ratchets went from nice and snug, with tight clearances, to very loose and sloppy where the gears are.. This one has the nice tight clearances that you would expect from a decent product.. When I went to take the sockets out, the deep well sockets all held in place good, and came out fairly easy, which made them pleasant to use.. But then I tried the shallow sockets.. Those are in so tight that you almost need a tool to pry them out.. and going back in is almost as hard.. They should have just done the side clips to hold them in place, like they did with the deep ones.. The one thing I will give them.. At least none of the sockets came out of place when i got it. The extension, ratchet, etc all were decent in their securement, and ease to take them out, and put them back in.. No complaints there.. The case is too big.. They could have easily made this case half of the size and still had it work good.. I liked that they did not skip sizes.. A lot of smaller sets like this will skip sizes like 11mm, 16mm, 18mm, etc. This set has every size from 10 to 19mm without skipping any sizes.. 5 stars for this. Overall, the tools all have a nice comfortable feel.. No real complaints with any of the tools in the set, on how they operate or quality.. My complaints are.. Too hard to take the shallow sockets out.. Missing a few sizes of the SAE deep sockets.. Case is way too big.. Wish that they were 6 point instead of 12 point. ... show more

  • Love Love Love this set!
Style: NEW 61 Piece Set
It's the perfect size for like all of my needs around the house! I have done plumbing repairs, electrical repairs and some mechanical repairs already with this set. I love the smaller ratcheting handle and how many clicks it has! So I can to really tiny movements in tight spaces and still enact action on the bolt I'm screwing in or out. And, the size is perfect! No real need for all that extra plastic around all of the sockets. That makes it so much easier to port around. This is now my go to household tool set! ... show more
