This is the best pet laser so far! It solves my two biggest complaints about these lasers: (1) holding in the on and off button until you get a permanent round indentation in your thumb & (2) having to buy batteries to feed my cats’ addiction to the little red dot from Hell. This laser plugs into a USB port for an hour for many hours of fun and the on/off is a switch not a button. It easily switches on and stays on until I switch it off. So much better! I’ve read some reviews complaining there were no instructions, but everything you need to know is in the Amazon product listing. So far, so good. As others have said, there should have been better instructions. Finally figured out that the top of the pen pulls off to show the USB plug. Also saw that the silver switch on the side has 4 positions. Off, next click is red laser, 2nd click is black light (however I have no clue what that's for) and the final click is the flashlight. The black knob above the lights at the bottom end of the light, turns right to left, of vise versa for the different laser patterns. As for charging, I can plug it in to the USB on my computer or my phone charger, as in the photos and just below and to the right of the on/off switch, there is a blue light that shows when it's charging (circled on the one pic). Hopefully it will last awhile ... show more

So much better than the classic laser pointers with those tiny, expensive button batteries. Seems to charge up quick on an old 5w iPhone power brick. Love the flashlight option too. How effective it is as a toy, it totally depends on your cat and to some extend on the age of the cat. The younger, the more playful will be.
