I ended up returning this item. I purchased these swim shorts for my boyfriend in size XL8. I read in some reviews that this product ran a little small, so I sized up. He is a 36, which is a large on the size chart. The XL was wayyyyyy too big. These was no mesh insert, and no hole in the crotch area. Perfect shorts for the gym, climbing, hiking, or just casual wear. Was looking for an athletic-ish short that I could also wear casually. Pockets were a must and the two side pockets and back velcro pocket are more than suitable. The 6 inch inseam is exactly the right length for me being 5'8".
