I was looking for some comfortable, lightweight hiking boots for relatively short day hikes or weekend camping or fishing trips. I wanted something with an aggressive tread pattern, waterproof uppers and that was also lightweight and comfortable. I considered several other brands and then found these. The reviews were very positive, so I ordered some in a 13 wide. I'd had good experience with Columbia jackets, but never their footwear. I was also a bit curious of what kind of quality I could expect for less than $100. It turns out these are exactly what I hoped for. They are lightweight and comfortable pretty much right out of the box and should break in a bit more with time and use. I love the red laces with the light brown color and they can be tightened up nicely around the ankles for additional support, if necessary. The tread pattern will provide plenty of grip in almost all conditions. I haven't had a chance to put their waterproofness to the test yet, but will update this review if they fall anything short of expectations. As for drawbacks, the insoles are pretty thin and ordinary and might need replacing before the rest of the boot gives out, if not sooner. Additionally, there is double-stitching in parts, but not throughout the entire boot, so I'll have to make sure it holds up and be quick with any needed repairs down the road. Overall, these are a great pair of boots for the money. You can certainly spend more on better quality boots that will take a long time to break in. If you're looking for boots you wear every day (or almost), that might be a good choice. But for the more occasional hiking boot that you want to be comfortable on the first hike and every one after, these are a good choice for all but the most demanding buyer. ... show more

My 19 year old asked for a second pair of these. He is in college and walks lots in the rain to and from classes on a huge campus. He says they keep his feet dry all day and he even likes the way they feel enough that they have become his go to shoes over his Nike and others. His first pair were gray and his second tan. The gray shoes are over a year old and are still holding up! We will be buying a third , maybe forth pair soon! BTW, its hard to find good shoes that fit him well when he wears a size 15. ... show more

I purchased these boots because me and my fiance go camping and hiking sometimes and we were planning a bigger trip to Yellowstone National Park. They worked great but just make sure you wear longer socks otherwise they will rub against the back of your ankle. The reason I took one star away is because after wearing them for hours at a time they started to hurt my ankle a bit since the back of the boot doesn't bend at the same point as my ankle. Walking downhill is where this is really noticeable. They are really grippy and great for good traction. I originally ordered the regular size but decided to send them back in favor of the wide size which was a great decision since the wide was way more comfortable. Overall they are nice and stylish hiking boots but the back of the boot could be a bit lower so as to not tire my ankles when walking downhill. ... show more

These are not designer, top quality, stylish shoes. These are a good, lightweight, waterproof, comfortable and rugged hiking boot. The leather is soft, pliable and strong. The cuff is sufficiently padded, as is the ankle. Traction on hard, concrete surfaces, as well as sand, mud, grass and dirt is superb. Slight traction loss on wet surfaces. These appear to have a waterproof liner, mixed with waterproof treated leather, as such do not expect rain boot or wading boot level waterproofness. ... show more
