It wasn't clear to me from the description or reviews whether this dictionary would actually provide translations when I highlight an Italian word in my Kindle app on my Pixel 7, but I can confirm it does. I was able to set it as my default dictionary for translations so that I can see translations in the little pop-up when I highlight a word. I also tried the Merriam-Webster dictionary, but this one is much better. This one can recognize conjugated verbs and adjectives with different endings, which the Merriam-Webster dictionary couldn't, making that one much less useful. I find that this dictionary returns results for almost everything while the Merriam-Webster usually came up short. My only complaint is that it doesn't play nice with my preferred theme of white text on a black background: some words (explanations in parentheses) are almost black in the pop-up, making them hard to read, but the actual translations are white, so it's not a big deal. And everything is displayed properly if you click into the full dictionary. ... show more

IF you do any amount of Italian and you're not either a native or a professional translator, you need this dictionary. They tend to be rare. I searched for more than six months before I found one.

It pleased so much to see my profession, cartomante, included in this dictionary. (The small, portable dictionary does not.) Collins Dictionaries are truly the best foreign language dictionaries for students and language lovers!

    • Excellent but from a British point of view
Excellent but from a British point of view. The Britishisms are a problem especially where the dictionary gives only a COLLOQUIAL OR SLANG translation, something that is meaningless to the US user. Extremely detailed, with a huge number of examples. Current. Good paper, good binding, reasonable margins. The best unabridged dictionary of Italian i am aware of. Does not have thumbtabs, though. Incidentally, does Collins have an unabridged Portuguese dictionary? ... show more

While reading a book on my older Kindle, the dictionary takes 10+ seconds to show definition or just does not show the definition at all. Sometimes when it does show the definition it is for the wrong word.
