  • An OK organizer for a closet shelf
Color: White Style Name: Organizer
The quality is just OK, but it is commensurate with the price point, so overall I'm happy with the product. It is very thin melamine over thin particle board. Not obvious is that the backing for the upper smaller cubicles is only cardboard. There is no mistaking it for fine furniture! It is sturdy when assembled. Assembly is pretty straight forward. Two of my shelves were of different sizes but both were marked "B"...clearly an error. The solution is to match up all the parts to the descriptions first and don't trust the faint stamping on the rough edges. One caution is to be sure the wooden dowels are tapped in as far as possible. I tried to use an abundance of caution to not over torque the screws or tap too aggressively when inserting the wooden dowels. Two my dowels were evidently not tapped in far enough and when I mated the the adjoining shelf the dowels poked through and cracked the melamine surface. A little glue and a clamp mostly fixed the cosmetic issue but it was an irritating start. ... show more

  • Sturdy and easy

Very easy to build. It does recommend using wood glue but I did not and it is still very sturdy.

  • It Does What It Says It Does. But Not Much More.
Color: Espresso Style Name: Organizer
I purchased two of these units, and just finished assembling the first of them. To begin with, shipping was much faster than expected--despite an estimated delivery date of tomorrow (January 25), the package arrived two days ago, just ahead of the winter storm that you're all sick of hearing about. Packaging was...confusing. Both boxes were wedged diagonally into a much larger shipping box which could probably have held a medium-sized refrigerator, with nothing more than some brown paper tossed in to prevent shifting. However, the inner boxes did hold up pretty well, and at least on the one I've put together everything came through undamaged. Assembly was fairly easy, although the diagrams provided leave quite a bit to be desired. If you are completely lost in assembling anything more complex than a sandwich, you'll want to find someone else to do it for you...but if you can puzzle out some of the less-than-precise instructions, you'll be fine. The assembly instructions indicate that glue (not included) must be used to hold some of the wooden dowels in place, but I opted to skip that step and see no loss in sturdiness as a result. You will need to have a philips head screwdriver and a small hammer available. As far as construction goes, I did find one dowel hole which had been drilled far too deep, but this was "fixed" by stuffing a piece of plastic into the hole. Again, the instructions are not the most detailed I've ever seen, so you'll want to be careful in ensuring that all of the finished sides are facing the same direction before screwing anything in (particularly if you do use glue). However, once you have everything lined up properly the screws go in easily and the finished product looks as nice as can be expected in the price range, and it is quite sturdy. Additional wall-mounting brackets are provided for those who plan to stack units. The cubby holes on the second level are pretty small, which will limit their usefulness. Large enough for a few books or compact discs, but you're not going to get much more in there. With the backing nailed in place it's also unlikely you'll be able to use them for shoes, unless you wear a particularly small size. The spaces on the bottom are much wider, however, and the backing strip does not cover these. The firmness of the build allows for larger items to be stored on top as well; I currently have a laundry hamper sitting on the top shelf, with no bowing apparent. Overall, worth the $35-40 price point, but not something you can use in place of a dresser or bookshelf and certainly not an item to be passed down for generations. I'll update as necessary over time. Update 3/21/17: More than a year later, nothing has changed. Unit one is still supporting a heavy laundry hamper and showing no signs of wear, while my old CPU has found a place atop the second unit which is also holding up beautifully. At this point I can comfortably say that only things holding this item back from a 5-star review are the poor assembly instructions included and the small storage areas inside the units. Other than those two items, a very well-engineered product which is quite fairly priced. ... show more

  • It's alright
Color: Espresso Style Name: Organizer
I only bought this thing to assemble it a different way than it should be assembled, and hilariously enough I was disappointed that I couldn't do what I intended. For the DIY crowd looking for a conveniently tall riser for a desk to put a monitor under AND on top of this thing, search elsewhere, as this can ONLY be built the way it wants you to build it, without the assistance of extra tools and holes. Even still, it's light and just sturdy enough. ... show more

  • Follow the instructions...very closely!
Color: White Style Name: Organizer
I almost decided not to buy this product based on all the negative reviews about difficult assembly and manufacturing defects. But given the reasonable price, I bought it anyway and I am very happy with my purchase. Assembly was not difficult at all, and I did not experience any of the defects that so many people talked about in previous reviews. I honestly think that the problems some people are having comes from misunderstanding the assembly instructions. So I am posting some of my pictures in the hope it might help others. Firstly, several reviews mention assembling the product from right to left and vice versa. I built mine per the instructions...which is from LEFT to RIGHT as one looks at the front of the unit. The other thing (and this is very important!) is when reading the instructions, pay close attention to the “unfinished” versus “finished” edges of each piece during assembly. The unfinished edges are shown shaded in the illustrations. You will have problems if the pieces are not assembled with the shaded edges placed exactly as shown in the drawings. I have included a few snapshots of my instruction booklet to show what I’m talking about. From the pictures posted by other reviewers, it seems a lot of folks have trouble getting piece “F” to fit properly. I’m including some pictures of mine to show how piece “F” joins with piece “C” and the placement of cam lock fasteners. It’s quite easy so long as the orientation of each piece is correct (again emphasizing the importance of the shaded edges in the instructions). Finally, I’d suggest NOT using any glue. This allows pieces to be easily removed and reassembled if you make a mistake. I didn’t use glue on mine and the finished product is sturdy and looks great. Overall I’m pleased with this product. I found it to be of acceptable quality given the price I paid. ... show more

  • Fine, minor cosmetic damage from transit
Color: White Style Name: Organizer
Overall fine, several steps to put together, and notes that it requires glue. I had some, and it might be OK without it, but hadn't expected to need it if it wasn't included. Minor cosmetic damage to one of the corners, the outer box was damaged, looked like it was dropped during transit. But generally OK, sort of expected that risk at this price point from other reviews. Not enough for me to go through the hassle of exchanging/returning. ... show more
