These bars have little end pieces that are designed to attach to a shelf or block of wood. My husband was able to bend the piece so we could screw it directly into the wall. Still works and is sturdy, but something to be aware of.

This closet hanging rod is solid and seems to be holding up well. Unfortunately ours came without screws even though it says they’re supposed to be included. Fortunately we had some that fit and were still able to install it. The rod itself seems sturdy enough. The only other complaint is that one of the screw holes on each end is a bit too close to the rod so I had to screw them in at an angle. Just weird design on that part. If you want a basic hanger rod for a small closet, this could be for you. It has a minimal, industrial aesthetic that may or may not appeal to you. As mentioned in the instructions, I was able to easily hammer down the one protruding flange that is included in case you want to mount it on a wood block. It did start to crack, but it is in a spot that is basically invisible once it is installed. Installation wasn't too difficult as such things go, but it was a little challenging to maneuver in the the tight confines of the closet. I used a drill to install the screws, and getting the right angle without hitting the rod while installing was tough. Overall, I think it is worth it for the purpose it serves, and while it feels sturdy once set up, I don't plan on hanging too many heavy garments on it. ~ Kort ... show more

My crappy secondhand wardrobe came with a super dinky little wooden dowel for a closet rod, which couldn't hold hardly any weight. I installed this instead, and it's perfect. I literally couldn't have asked for a better option. Even though the walls of my wardrobe are made of the cheapest particle board, it stays securely attached and holds my clothes (about half of a normal closet's worth) with zero problem. I like the way each end has multiple screws, to distribute the weight and reduce stress on the walls of what it's attaching to. I have it almost as small as it will go width wise, which may be helping with its overall sturdiness, but honestly it seems well made and durable. It's been in there for six months and it's still going strong, and I don't expect to have any issues with it. ... show more

    • Remember that this needs two walls--it's not like a towel rack

This is fine, fairly strong, and inexpensive. But remember that this is not like a towel rack. It needs one perpendicular wall at one end and another perpendicular wall at the other. In my small house my daughter has a room without a closet, and I needed a closet bar to attach to the back of her door. This would not do. In the end I took out one of the towel racks in the bathroom for her closet bar, and used this rack between two bathroom walls to hold up towels. It was fine.
