  • When is the next volume
Format: Paperback
Out of all the manga I read this particular one pulled me in the fastest, sent me on an emotional roller coaster, and kept me fully invested until the very end. The artwork is every well done, the story is so intriguing and Cast being a black female protag was just icing on the cake. The representation of Cast is another strong point, the mannerisms, her hair and so much else gave me such a sigh a relief that it wasn't just tokenism. I look forward to pre ordering the next vol as soon as it comes out, which hopefully will be soon because I am at the edge of my seat after that teaser page at the end of vol 1. ... show more

  • An amazing new Shonen Manga Series
Format: Paperback
No regrets here, everything about this manga hits just right to get you invested in the story. The major characters are really well written and multi dimensional so it's easy to want to follow their journey. The main character, Cast, is the perfect main character for this world of science and machines. This applies to the villains as well, there are some super cool enemies here that make the fights fun to see play out. The fight scenes as a whole are really strong and live up to what makes shonen manga great. At the same time there's also a somber maturity to the series that grounds it too. I love the worldbuilding too. The technology and mystery of the world makes you want to find out more, that's a huge plus. The artwork as well, it brings so much life to the book. Really stunning visuals on display. There's a classic feeling to the art as well imo, it took me back to the early 2000s which is an era of anime and manga that I love to this day. Highly recommend! ... show more

  • Clock Striker
Format: Paperback
Clock Striker is a fun and an amazing story, also featuring the first black female shonen anime character. The origin story of Cast is so humble and tragic with all of the trials and dilemma, in order to reach her dreams by becoming a Smith. Along with her aventures, she is taken under the wing by a cool kick-ass mentor named Philomena/Ms. Clock by helping and showing her the ropes in order to become a Smith and these two works so well with each other it’s like watching Naruto and Jiraiya all over again, along with all that the gadgets in this book and the machines they built are insane and creative. Shout out to the people who worked on this manga. If you are looking for a fun, original, new, and a cool interesting story. This is the book for you. ⏰⚡️✊🏽 ... show more

  • Beautiful!
Format: Paperback
Man, this book is AMAZING! I love every single character, the style is dynamic and beautiful, and the writing/ plot is fantastic! I give this a full 100/10! That's right; I said 100/10, because this book goes above and beyond! About time little black girls got a character they can relate to!

  • Clock Striker Review
Format: Paperback
I wanted to share my thoughts on Clock Striker, a book that sparked controversy a few years ago due to a scene where the Black female lead is getting her hair braided by a white person. While I understand why some people had strong reactions, I feel it’s important not to write off the entire book because of this. As a Black woman with 4C hair, I can personally relate to how our hair’s texture can change with different products—it doesn’t always stay in a puff! While textureism is a conversation worth having, I think this book still deserves a chance, especially for readers looking for representation. Spoilers Ahead The story follows Cast, a determined young girl who dreams of becoming a Smith—an engineer who uses virtual tools to help people. She lives in a town that’s often looked down on, with a mother who is chronically ill and a brother who is forced into crime by a corrupt teacher exploiting vulnerable kids. When Cast’s brother gets into trouble, she steps in to save him, and this sets off a chain of events. She uncover hidden truths, kicking off an exciting adventure. My Thoughts I really enjoyed the adventurous spirit of this story. It’s refreshing to see a book where we can simply follow a Black protagonist on an epic journey without the weight of overly heavy stereotypes. We need more books like this—ones where diverse characters get to take center stage in genres like action and adventure. I gave Clock Striker 3.5 stars. I’m holding onto this book and hoping the story continues to grow, especially by introducing more Black Smiths for Cast to meet. I’d love to see her world expand in ways that complement her connection with Ms. Clock while deepening the overall story. If you’re looking for representation in manga-style books, I highly recommend checking this one out. It’s worth the read! ... show more

  • Great art! Exceeded my expectations
Format: Paperback
So happy I can be apart of this moment in history and snatch a copy before it becomes an anime. I had high expectations and the art in particular exceeded those expectations. Just looking at the work you’d be shocked to know it wasn’t drawn by a Japanese artist. As a young teenage guy that started reading hack/slash at his local comic book shop I just have a soft spot for kick-ass girls fighting things. Nearly 10 years later that hasn’t changed. Shout out to seny as well! Can’t wait until saigami vol 2 drops. ... show more

  • A Fun Throwback-style Shounen Series
Format: Paperback
If you're like me, you probably remember being a teenager and hanging out in the manga section of the local library or bookstore and zoning out with a paperback like this one. Clock Striker has the look and feel of a lost series from around the same time as One Piece, Bleach, Naruto, or Rave Master. Reading this as an adult, it feels very much like a series that's familiar even though it's brand new. This is not to say Clock Striker is merely retreading old ground from classic Shounen manga, and it very much has its own identity. I personally like how thoughtfully the main character Cast was written, especially with regards to her disability, (she's missing her left hand and needed to build a replacement.) If any of this seems interesting to you, I'd say give it a read. I don't think you'll be disappointed. ... show more
