  • Sucks.
I wish we could send it back. It never worked and took hours to assemble. We wasted hours with unhelpful emails from the company and lots of wait time for replies. Instead of a learning experience we got a whole lot of wasted time, frustration and discouragement.

  • My 12-year-old built a working cell phone (supervision required)
This is a pretty good kit. The instructions were clear. Nothing was missing, and the components are of adequate quality. I had my 12-year-old practice soldering on another Arduino first. The 5 hour estimate isn't far off. If you have no experience soldering, it will be messy and take longer. The kit worked the first time we turned it on! Is it a great phone? Well, not like the latest Samsung, certainly. But it sounds fine on both ends of a call. Text messages work. The display is too small for much else. The battery seems to last well enough for actual use. Quite pleased! ... show more

  • Requires skill and is fun
As long as you have patience and some skill with a soldering iron, this makes for a fun project. The real fun comes from using the support software found on the website to make your own apps.

  • Very nice product, a lot of fun building it
My kids (the youngest 13 y/o) assembled the phone together in a few hours, with kids doing most of soldering. In the process we missed a note about bronze nuts and mixed up two of them, so we had to slightly adjust the last stage of assembly. But the phone worked right away nevertheless! The only problem, I cannot figure out which SIM card to put in it - I don't want to purchase full-scale line to it, and cheap lines are scarce. Hopefully I'll figure something out. I asked advice from the company, but got none so far. ... show more

  • It works, the instruction has one weak point.
This kit is good for a grade 7+ student to start getting to know how soldering works. Basically it requires minimum of soldering skill plus some patient. The only things you will need to soldering on are connections and buttons. Other parts are made as function model. What you will need to do is to put them together, with provided connections. Production phones will use wires or sockets. Just be careful not get hurt. The idea is quite crazy, and the out come is satisfying. The phone is able to make phone calls. sending sms. and even reading music from the SD card. SD card is provided, sd card reader is also provided, which is nice. There are two size of nuts inside the package. and the instruction didn't tell you where to use which. I figure it out if you put the mother board to the back part, you will need to use small size and then use long screws, then the screws will be long enough to reach the front. otherwise there is no way to connect them together. The speaker is also larger than the cut out of the panel, I have to relocated it underneath the screen. I am certain the screws will get loose. After all if using this phone like real one suggesting put some thread locker in between. Great idea, just need to be polished. 4 stars for the product, plus 1 star for the idea. ... show more
