A gift recipient, who was initially delighted to see the gold coins, sampled one and pensively requested that I sample a piece. I was surprised that the chocolate had a somewhat odd taste as if an extract was used rather than than at least 40% cocoa. It certainly doesn't taste like Lindt chocolate!

I got these chocolate coins to add to Easter baskets for my neighbors grandkids. The golden wrapped coins look just like the ones I remember from my childhood, only better! These are a bit bigger than most chocolate coins. The unwrapped chocolate coins have "fat bloom" on the surface. This occurs when chocolate is exposed to changes in temperature: the cocoa butter oe liquid fat melts and rises to the surface. It then recrystallizes leaving what looks like a white powdery film on the surface. It is still completely safe to eat, and I did eat the one in the photo. The chocolate tastes a bit more "dry" than what you would expect because of it. The chocolate is fresh and not near its expiration date. The appearance of the gold coin wrapping is wonderful. The embossed design on the chocolate coin is also well done. I knocked one star off my rating because of the fat bloom. These chocolates are good, but they do not taste like the creamy European chocolate. They have a a drier texture to them. They are a little spendy, but to be honest, they are the size of half dollars. Kids will love them, ... show more
