  • Nice and quiet - great fuel economy
This is our third year of having a Keystone travel trailer parked on our lot where we're building our home. We're doing things the hard way by milling our own lumber, doing all our own earthwork, etc., so there's lots of time spent there. For years we just traveled from our house 1.5 miles away, but the trailer really allows us to eat there and have facilities. But with our solar setup, the 120v things in the trailer don't work like phone chargers, the microwave and, most importantly, the air conditioning. While we don't have lots of days where A/C is needed, we're excited to be able to enjoy that without being able to hear the generator outside over the A/C on the inside. The first time I used this was when I needed to do some work-from-home work while my husband was working on a project outside but needed me occasionally. Nice, constant power. Very fuel efficient. Easily did 6 to 7 hours with a gallon of gasoline. Edit to add: We are doing construction work up on this woodlot and have "relied" for years on a BIG Generac (the biggest portable Generac Amazon sells). It's constantly breaking and having electronics fail. Right now one of the rectifiers is shot so it's not charging the battery. That thing is big and heavy and so we run extension cords for it for our saw. We grabbed our new little Champion and what a difference. All we're running is a 12" DeWalt chop saw. It doesn't take any longer for the saw to get up to speed on this little generator. We can easily talk over it. It's super easy to shut down between cutting times. Our fuel economy difference between this one and letting the big Generac run all day will pay for this generator before the summer is out! And we still get to use it to run the AC in our camper! ... show more

  • Small, very lightweight & super-quiet
I was at the race track (dry camping). I had an issue with my solar charging system and it would not maintain a charge overnight. Luckily I had a friendly neighbor who shared & connected me to his Champion 3100 Generator. It worked great running his AC and powering my Class B - that's why I chose Champion. After seeing his 3100, I felt a 2500/1850 would suit my needs and thus I chose this model. This unit has a small [dare I say "tiny"] footprint & is lightweight (it's hard to believe it's a 2500/1850). Most importantly, it's very quiet (even under a load) - it sounds like a white noise machine (it won't disturb you OR your neighbors). I haven't yet run it out of gas, so I cannot attend to the run time. I bought a quart of Royal Purple Break-in Oil {for the initial 5-hour break-in period) and I also bought a magnetic dipstick that I leave in full-time (to remove potential residual metal shavings inside the engine during break-in & as a safety measure after break-in). My only slight negative: the pull-start recoil is initially a bit finicky. The instructions say to pull it a couple of times until you feel resistance. What it doesn't say - once you feel resistance you cannot release any slack - you must immediately pull it hard to start. After a couple of tries, I realized what I was doing wrong and it started-up immediately. Overall, I'm extremely happy. IF my opinion changes, I'll come back and update my review. ... show more

  • Light weight plus quality
This is my second purchase of this generator. The first one drowned in Hurricane Ian but in the brief time that I owned it I was really impressed with the unit so I bought another one. Lightweight is important to me because I move it around on my boat from the storage position to the operating position. An important feature is the serviceability of this generator. I like the clamshell design for the covers on both sides. Many small generators are difficult to service, not this one. Another small factor in its favor is the fact that you can buy a cover for it for half the price of a Honda cover. The only thing that I would like to see in a future model is a 30 amp plug. Either that or an adapter which securely fits into the existing twp 15 amp sockets. UPDATE****So after about two months and thirty hours runtime, the generator began hunting and tripping out when load was increased. Champion tech service did offer to replace the carburetor but said it was backordered until November. Not wanting to wait that long, I removed all of the plastic necessary to remove the carb and cleaned it. Once reassembled, I ran the genset under load using a double dose of Seafoam per the Champion tech's recommendation. Voila! It runs perfect now. I have a couple of suggestions for Champion and/or any owner of this generator: *install an in-line fuel filter. It takes a 3/16 filter and you can buy 10 of them for $7.00 here. This is a much better solution than the fill screen supplied with the unit. You will also need about 6 inches of 3/16 fuel line since the original line is too short to simply cut and insert the filter (it will kink the line if you do this (don't ask). Champion if your listening, do this and you will dramatically reduce service calls and maybe not have to send out so many new parts under warranty. *Champion should include a listing of YouTubes regarding dismantling and troubleshooting. This will also save calls. *Champion customer service needs to have a call back option. Most people don't have an hour or more to wait for them to answer. Other than the above, this is still a best buy and at least they try to service their customers. ... show more

  • A few breakin problems but still works great A few breakin problems but still works great
I ordered the 2500 watt portable generator (Model 20095) from Amazon. It came, undamaged in about one week. After unpacking it, I found the unpacking instructions in the manual??? I added fresh fuel, purchases that morning, poured in the oil, and started it up, 3 or 4 pulls always needed. A few puffs of white smoke and it settled to a quite idle. No load voltage was 123 VAC and under any load, it was 119 VAC. I also checked the sine wave output, and it was identical to the AC power line. For the break-in, I used a toaster oven set to bake at 300 degrees. It cycled on/off at zero power, then 13 amps under load, close to the maximum load. The engine transitioned to full load with a few coughs but otherwise worked well. I shut it off, after six hours, and changed the oil as recommended (10W30). The next day, it ran our refrigerator for seven hours without a problem. Barely a speed change when the refrigerator cycled. Only used half tank of gas! I changed the oil again and noticed a few concerns. The engine still coughs when running, the rubber hose from the OHV valve cover to the carburetor, was kinked at a right angle. This completely closed the vent. Upon inspecting the spart plug, it was covered in black soot. The spark gap was clean, but the insulator was covered with a black power. Through the spark plug hole, I could see that the piston head was also covered with soot. I am replacing the spark plug with an NGK 6222 and replacing the breather hose. Both very minor repairs and not worth warranty trouble. I will determine if this caused the occasional engine coughing and the apparent rich mixture. Even with these functional user anomalies, I like the generator, and am look forward to using it in the next hurricane! ... show more

  • Update: Love this Generator
Update: Used for 2.5 days due to hurricane Ian power outage and it worked great! Lasted 11 hours plus on full tank. Burns very little gas. Very happy! I'll come back and change my rating after having it for a while. I like what I see so far. Easy to set up, got it up and running with little effort. Plugged in a 12 Cup Mr. Coffee Coffee Maker and no problems! That was the most important thing to me if I lose power... will it start my coffee pot and will I be able to run my refrigerator. Noise isn't too bad. It isn't quiet so don't be fooled by the description; it is probably just quieter than a larger regular generator. More to come, but happy so far. ... show more

  • Great little generator
It’s been a really good generator for the price. Fairly light weight and pretty quiet. Easy to start and runs a long time on a tank of gas.

  • Works, easy starting, FAILS after few hours
Generator arrived today. Good delivery by Amazon. However Amazon and their 30 day return policy isn't playing well. Amazon wants to trouble shoot over the phone with bunch of canned questions with non-electrical people on their end. On weight of the generator, the Amazon girl carried the box to the front porch. followed directions and added oil, little gasoline and unit started on first pull. Tested the generator at home with one minute run on 1500W electric heater.... Should have let it run for few hours. Got to NV and camping, the generator failed with 500W air conditioner load after few hours. In comparisons with brand "H", never tells full story of engine cc size comparison, as this generator's engine is considerably smaller. That said, pricing is good but you're throwing money down the toilet.I saw few comments the unit wouldn't start. I did a few starts. It is possible to flood the unit and you need to move the knob to take the choke off, gasoline on with no choke. If you don't understand the engine is flooded, get help. For radio operators, this unit will produce RFI / RF hash, Stay away!! This generator could never pass FCC compliance. ... show more

  • Was Defective out of the box - Replaced
Brand new the unit blew white smoke, very loud, CO2 too high. Called Champion and was told to continue the break in process and it should clear up. It did not, still noisy at idle(69 db at 25 feet), still smokes and smells constantly. Engine runs rough, sometimes misses. Can't return to Amazon, getting run around and delay from Champion. Update: Champion has two customer service departments. One in Canada and one in California. When I first called Champion's 800 number, the call went to Canada. They had me send a video of the unit and purchase receipt before doing anything about a return or exchange. After no callback some days later, called the number again. This time got the California main office. The rep quickly processed the proceedure for a return. Revised Update: Now instead of replacing my new unit, it was decided the carb is defective and they want to send a replacement carb saying it is easy for me to replace. Shouldn't have to replace parts myself no matter how easy it is. Champion if you read this I know why you won't replace the whole unit under warranty. I've had it 17 days. You saw my proof of purchase that Amazon sold it for $399 new. As of this writing, they are selling for $539. It is cheaper to mail me a part and do the labor than replace the whole unit. 2nd revision update: Maybe someone at Champion read about my dissapointment. Next day, I received an email they will now replace the whole generator. 3rd revision update: Received replacement. After 4th hour of break in, the gen got louder at idle and smoking. After 5th hour, pulled spark plug. It's fouled. Replaced spark plug and unit is quiet and little smoke. I suspect this replacement is bad too but I'm done. Put it in the garage. I only bought for a power outage, but spent too much time with break ins, CO2 issues, and noise higher than 70db at 25 feet. 5 stars are for customer service only. ... show more
