Description

The Champion Power Equipment 100179 12.5-kW Home Standby Generator with an ATS100 Outdoor-Rated Automatic Transfer Switch is The Simple Solution to a power outage. It starts automatically when the power goes out and returns to standby when power is restored. You’ll have the starting power you need during an emergency since the onboard battery charger maintains the charge at all times, plus, since the generator is connected to your propane or natural gas system, it never needs refueling. This unit also performs weekly self- diagnostic tests. The ATS100 automatic transfer switch operates a 100 amp, 16 circuit load (12 space sub panel allows up to 4 tandem breakers). It is ideal for homeowners who want to power emergency essentials during a power outage as opposed to the whole house. It is housed in a NEMA 3R rated enclosure for outdoor use. Our innovative gull-wing design provides easy access to the engine and control panel and allows a full view of the onboard control system. This 12.5-kW-rated unit produces 52.1 amps at 240 volts on propane and 45.8 amps at 240 volts on natural gas. The alternator produces less than 5% total harmonic distortion (THD) to ensure safe use with even the most sensitive electronics. This generator is available for all 50 states, and the ATS100 is UL and cUL listed in the US and Canada. I've had my generator for about 4 years and haven't had a problem until recently. Evidently the starter has gone out. I called Champion customer support and they were very helpful and are sending the part. I'm very impressed by their concern for their customers!

I was impressed enough with the reviews and videos out the on this unit to proceed with purchasing one for my home and I'm glad I did. I received it within a week of ordering. The installation was fairly straightforward. I had a 250 gallon LPG tank installed to serve the HSB Generator. The 100A ATS allows for the entire internal house panel to be served during an outage so everything in the home with the exception of the HVAC, Range, and Dryer circuits. All other appliances, circuits and water heater are served by the unit. The 12.5kW unit is more than sufficient to serve all of this because with LPG the unit can serve up to 52A of load. You do have to purchase (2) 12V batteries separately and install oil in the unit before running it as it ships without batteries or oil. A concrete pad is not absolutely necessary if you have a flat compacted location for the unit. Rock would be recommended if you don't pour a pad. I would highly recommend this unit to anyone looking to install a HSB generator. It automatically starts and restores power in under a minute during an outage. ... show more

Probably unfair to give it one star when I still havent used it. The Axis control is confusing. I figured out how the dip switches should be set for my installation. I wanted verification before electrician hooked it up. I asked for this and what they sent me was a copy of my installation manual. I didn't need two confusing copies of anything. The manual does not cover my installation. (Don't need any load control as I bought one big enough to cover my total load) ... show more

I installed the unit myself and had some issues that the company did correct. There is an internal switch which absolutely needs to be in the correct position for the correct transfer switch installation. If you are going to install one yourself, and you have questions, don't expect the answers right away on the phone. Leave your number and they generally will get back to you sometime that day.
