  • Easy to follow directions
Waiting for spring to carve the bear. I've never chain saw carved before, but I feel confident I can do it with this book.

  • I am liking this
I really like this book. Great pictures. Would have given it five stars if it had another step by step instead of all the random photos.

  • 3 projects inside
Great book really helps get the basics… compared to other books out there this one is the best.

  • Great book focusing on chainsaw carving for beginners.
I was asked to do a four-foot tall chainsaw carving for My brother but have never done this before. After reading through the book, this is NOT something I can do - but is carefully written with great illustrations for carvers braver than me!

  • Great book
After watching YouTube videos with ill-mounted cameras, or sped up to where you can't get a good look, I found this book and bought it. It is heavily illustrated with good pictures and explanations step by step. I found it very clear. One other bonus: the paper of the pages is coated, so you can work with the book open next to you without it getting stained with chain oil spatters and oily sawdust. ... show more

  • Nothing beyond carving process
This book has lots of information and photos about the actual carving process of three different bears. However, that's about ALL this book contains. It contains NO information or pictures on: *How to find and select logs *Additional bear poses beyond the three listed *How to paint or finish the bears *How to display the bears *How to sell/market the finished product Also, note that every photo in the step-by-step process is taken from exactly the same position, so some cuts and/or steps are not very visible. That said, there are enough illustrations to make up for this shortcoming. Bottom line: If you want to learn to chainsaw carve a bear, this book is adequate, but I'm hoping for a 2nd edition covering the materials listed above, as well as basic ratios for determining proportions on the bear. ... show more

  • Excellent book to start you on your way to wood chainsaw carving.
What a great book to start learning how to wood carve. Learned a lot and gave me directions on what to do and what to think of before you start. Covered procedures and the illustrations are very easy to follow. Recommend this book to anyone think about getting into wood chainsaw carving.
