Description

If you’re in search of a high-quality, professionally designed telescope that is easy to set up and use, the AstroMaster Series 90EQ telescope by Celestron is a superior choice. The AstroMaster 90EQ Refractor Telescope for adults and kids to be used together is a user-friendly and powerful telescope engineered with a lightweight frame and fully-coated optics. Our Celestron telescope features a fully-coated 90mm primary mirror. It also features an AstroMaster German Equatorial manual mount that includes two slow-motion control knobs that allow you to make precision adjustments to easily follow celestial objects as they appear to move across the night sky. The two eyepieces combine with the 90mm aperture optics to produce amazing magnification. The 20mm eyepiece offers 50x magnification, while the 10mm eyepiece provides up-close views up to 100x. This allows you to focus on distant objects with amazing clarity. We have designed the AstroMaster series of telescopes for kids to enjoy exploring the cosmos with adult supervision. Superior materials provide crystal-clear, bright images of Saturn, Jupiter, and the Moon, along with deep space objects including brighter galaxies and nebulae. You can also use this telescope for viewing land-based objects during daytime hours. The telescope is quick to set up and requires no tools. The kit includes a rugged, pre-assembled tripod with 1.25-inch steel tube legs, which provide a stable platform for hours of safe use. As a bonus, download our BONUS Starry Night Basic Edition astronomy software for interactive sky simulations, a 36,000-object database, and printable sky maps. It’s the best way to learn about the night sky, download printable sky maps, research thousands of celestial objects, and plan your next observing session. Buy with confidence from the world’s 1 telescope brand, based in California since 1960. You’ll also receive a two-year warranty and unlimited access to technical support from our team of US-based experts. Celestron’s Astromaster 90EQ refractor telescope is a good choice for anyone who wants to try out astronomy for an affordable price, and it can double as a long range spotting scope. Bigger and more impressive than it looks in pictures, the Astromaster 90 EQ is an adult size telescope that stands nearly five feet high and weighs almost 25 pounds. With it’s fully illustrated quick set up guide, the telescope is easy to assemble, and the package includes an erect image prism, high and low power eyepieces, and astronomy software for your PC. Refractors are known for their crisp, high contrast views of the Moon and planets and the Astromaster 90 delivers sharp views right out of the box. The low power 20mm eyepiece (50X magnification) nicely frames the moon, while the high power 10mm eyepiece (100X magnification) delivers a crisp close up image full of detail. The sharp Achromatic optics of the Astromaster 90 EQ give me memorable views night after night. On a moonless night I like the way the 20mm eyepiece frames the ghostly glow of the Orion Nebula. Zooming in with the 10mm eyepiece, I can easily pick out all four stars of the Orion Nebula’s embedded quadruple star the Trapezium. Another night I was treated to a nice view as one of Jupiter’s moons cast its shadow on Jupiter’s cloud tops. The Equatorial mount included with the Astromaster 90 EQ is designed to help track stars and planets at high power. When I set up the telescope, I simply point the polar axis at Polaris, the North Star. This makes it easy to keep celestial objects in the field of view by turning one slow motion knob. Celestron also offers the AstroMaster 90 EQ MD which includes a battery powered motor for automatic tracking. The CG-3 equatorial mount is a little wobbly when the legs are fully extended, but that’s normal for any large telescope in this price range. The built in “Star-Pointer” finder allows me to aim the telescope by aligning an illuminated red dot with the target. This works OK for bright objects like the Moon and planets, but it’s not so easy to use on fainter deep space objects. --Jeff PhillipsPros:Crisp clear views of the Moon and planets Rugged refractor design Easy no-tool set up Erect image prism and two eyepieces included Cons:Equatorial mount wobbles a bit while focusing Star pointer not so easy to use Jupiter showing the shadow of Ganymede, July 22, approx 400X. Double star Albireo in Cygnus, July 28, approx 200X The Moon as seen at 50X with Canon Powershot camera. Each AstroMaster model is capable of giving correct views of land and sky. The AstroMaster Series produce bright, clear images of the Moon and planets. It is easy to see the moons of Jupiter and the rings of Saturn with every one of these fine instruments. For views of the brighter deep space objects like galaxies and nebulae, we recommend the larger aperture and light gathering ability of the Newtonian reflectors. See more

  • An excellent choice
Size: 90EQ Refractor Pattern: Single
My experience starts with their small travel scope that I've used quite often and did okay for its price. This scope is a huge upgrade in terms of quality. The tripod is excellent and can be fine tuned to center your target and the scope is a big upgrade compared to the travel scope I use. Combining this with celestrons 3x Barlow scope and their zoom lense that I originally used on the travel scope. Look forward to trying it out later tonight. It was easy to set up read the directions if needed they are pretty simple, but your just putting a couple pieces together. *A warning though it is pretty hefty so be careful carrying it* I also didn't have any issues regarding quality or damage to the item that others have experienced ... show more

  • Perfect starter telescope.
Size: 90EQ Refractor Pattern: Single
My wife has been looking at telescopes for a while, but she didn't know how much they cost, so she never asked for one. I did a little bit of research and found that I could afford this one. The reviews were pretty good and it looked very neat. I didn't expect much for the price, but I figured it'd be a good starter telescope. Needless to say, we're beyond happy. It's very easy to assemble (I didn't even use instructions) and works flawlessly. We were so happy to be able to view the moon and all the details on it. I just bought a T-adapter and a T-ring for her D7000 camera so that she can do photography, but I'm also planning on buying more lenses later on. It's a great product. I highly recommend it. ... show more

  • A perfect first telescope!
Size: 90EQ Refractor Pattern: Single
A perfect first telescope! Especially suited for lunar and planetary viewing. The views of the moon through this telescope are breath-taking! The EQ mount makes tracking objects so much easier once you get used to it; you will spend more time enjoying actually viewing, instead of fighting adjustments as with an AZ mount. Overall this is an outstanding scope! Well worth the jump up from the 70mm. For the highest contrast, sharpest views of the planets a refractor is definitely the way to go! Also, practically zero maintenance and no time spent collimating. Just put it on the mount and get right to viewing! Purchased Astromaster Accessory Kit: it's a decent upgrade for this telescope if you're on a budget, but I can't recommend it. The 15mm Kellner actually performs well for a cheap eyepiece. However, the filters in this kit are too dark for a refractor of this size, and you really won't get any benefit from them on the planets. You really don't need a barlow lens for this scope, because the magnification range is fairly narrow; you just need the right size eyepieces. Skip the kit and purchase the Agena AstroProducts EWA 9mm eyepiece instead; for $45 I challenge you to find a better performing eyepiece! It really takes views through this instrument to a whole new level! Very comfortable for extended viewing, with great eye-relief, a wide field of view, and excellent contrast! This single eyepiece makes every starter eyepiece in your collection obsolete! This entire line of eyepieces are incredible for the price! This scope really shines in the x111 to x166 magnification range. Sometimes it takes a little patience to really nail the focus, as the focuser adjustment is a bit coarse. If it's within your budget I recommend the prism diagonal 90 by William Optics which has a 15mm fine helical focuser adjustment (Agena AstroProducts carries it). It's worth every penny, and is an incredible upgrade. Looking through the Agena EWA 9mm on this diagonal is like having a new telescope, and everything I viewed was like looking at it again for the first time! The moon through these optics will simply blow you away! To get the most out of this instrument, upgrade the cheap, plastic diagonal, and don't buy the cheap "kit" lenses. Clear Skies! :) ... show more

  • Better quality scope
Size: 90EQ Refractor Pattern: Single
Liked the quality and equatorial mount once I got used to it. Ended up getting higher quality lenses for it. Only negative was how heavy it is to move around. I could see the bands of Jupiter and 4 of it’s moons.

  • A Tip on Balancing the EQ Mount...
Size: 90EQ Refractor Pattern: Single
It took me a while to figure out how to properly balance the telescope on the EQ mount. The R.A. balancing was particularly troublesome... the counterweights always won. Then I realized the trick -- only install ONE of the counterweights. The mount comes with two, but you only need one for a telescope of this weight. After getting the balance right, it works like a dream. The slow-motion controls allow me to easily hone in on and track objects, and the optics of the telescope give a clear, vibrant view of the night sky. ... show more

  • Needs Better Quality Control
Size: 90EQ Refractor Pattern: Single
The Celestron AstroMaster 90EQ telescope came well-packaged and was extremely easy to assemble. I had it put together in under 20 minutes, and was impressed with the overall fitment. Aesthetically, however, the telescope had some disappointing issues - especially considering the price paid. Notably, the two iron counterweights were covered in surface rust, and glue used in assembly was not cleaned off properly which left a fairly noticeable mark on the tube. Perfection is one thing, but this seemed very sloppy. It's my son's birthday, so I can live with a glue stain and eventually spray paint the weights - but Celestron dropped the ball on the quality control. Update: Took it outside to stargaze, and the lateral adjustment lock was siezed. Couldn't move it. Perhaps this was a rare case, but I am not impressed. Rusty parts, sloppy production, and siezed adjustments - nope, nope, nope. ... show more

  • Good Telescope
Size: 90EQ Refractor Pattern: Single
I am a beginner when it comes to telescopes and I bought one mainly to look at the moon. I've had this for about a week and it's been working great! There was a new moon so I haven't been able to view much, but the image is crisp and clear. Would recommend. My model is the Astromaster 90EQ.

  • Very poor material and workmanship
Size: 90EQ Refractor Pattern: Single
I bought this for my 10 year old this past Christmas and assembled it for use just after the new year. Immediately, we found the eye piece holding screw to be loose and that bracket had to be replaced. I called Celestron's tech support and reported the problem. Two week later the replacement part arrived. We got a few good views of the constellation of stars and a half moon. On the third use, the vertical adjustment knob fell out and the unit is stuck at a 45-50 degree vertical slope. Two broken parts in the first month of use. You decide if this telescope is worth your money. ... show more
