I owned a fold-open bookcase decades ago, when I was often on the move. A folding bookcase is perfect for a college dorm room or anyone inhabiting a space that they don't think will be permanent. But I also recommend this bookcase for the look of the thing. It passes off as being of very high quality and as an elegant, minimalist bookcase. Hoorah! Quite well made. Very sturdy. Slide it out of its shipping box, open it up (anyone can do this), stand it upright, give it a good dusting or damp cloth wipe down, and if you want to make it feel at home, a wax furniture wood polish as well. Then load up the books and enjoy. I have only purchased one. I do not know how this performs when stacked. Instructions caution that TWO PEOPLE are needed to stack one upon another, and given the weight and heft, I concur. I love them, I bought 2, and I'm looking to buy 1 more. I thought I was going to have to put it together but no assembly required. I love also that it's solid wood, not that prefab/premolded stuff. Alot of room for plenty of books or for whatever you may use it for.

I ordered this shelf because I saw it at a friend's house and it was the perfect size for what I wanted. I also love that it is stackable. So I ordered 2 of them. Unfortunately, the second shelf never arrived. I had to cancel the order. I was never given a real reason as to why it did not arrive. In any case, the one I did receive, I had to do some "scrubbing" because the shelf was well packed in styrofoam and some of the styrofoam stuck to the shelf. The best part about these shelves is that they take less than 5 minutes from unpacking to placing in the room. I got 5 of these in honey oak for much-needed storage in my small space. One went into my closet, and the other 4 were stacked into two tall units. I'm 65 and have back, neck, and hand issues, and was pleasantly surprised at how easily everything went together, although it would have been better to have someone help stack them. The only caution I have is when you first open the side pieces, watch out for the shelves dropping quickly into place, all at the same time. The craftsmanship and quality is beautiful. They were meticulously packaged, yet so easy to unbox. It was as if someone had taken great care to put it together and like a gift, it opened on its own, unfolding as you removed the packaging. This is by far the best Amazon product I have ever seen. One reviewer commented about a chemical smell. I assure you not one of the 4 I ordered had any such smell. Good thing I didn’t read that earlier or I would’ve been discouraged from ordering. I’m glad I ordered these. They are a godsend, actually. I have quite the accumulation of books. They weigh only about 20 lbs each. They fit in my small living space, and actually add to the decor, not detract from it. The wood finish on the honey oak is great quality. With the price of wood here in the States shooting up since the pandemic, you can’t beat this price. I got a discount somehow, so that’s why I took the leap and ordered 4. The reason I didn’t give all stars is because one is more wobbly than the rest. That might be why one reviewer commented about that. Each unit is a bit different. One has a very tight fit, one is just loose - and the loose one has something dark, almost sticky looking on the bottom shelf. I don’t know if it’s part of the wood or a flaw. I didn’t see any quality control stamp of approval on a piece of paper. One unit had the hardware attached by a clever thread built into the box. Another unit didn’t - it was just in the box. The wobbly one could’ve been a return - I didn’t see hardware to go with it. The hardware isn’t actually needed at all unless you plan to attach it to a wall. Apparently the units are stackable. They do look like they would fit well. I’m not sending back the flawed one with the dark stain on the bottom. Maybe it’s a quirk of nature. Having Thai in the family, this is a welcome addition. One day my family will see “Made in Thailand” on the caution sticker saying don’t put a heavy TV set on this (maybe that’s the quality control or different). I have 4 right now. They fold, very portable. Heavy wood. Just be careful the shelves don't come down to quickly! I taped around bottom to top. They stack! Very easy to do. (I taped) the hole doesn't line up, until you open sides all the way. Very sturdy. I want two more.
