I spent weeks looking for the best bang for my buck when buying a bookshelf. This was actually my second option. My first was about 10” taller. Which i prefered, but every single piece came in damaged do to how it was packaged from seller. + there was assembly** When this one arrived it came full assembled. Packaged so well. Youd havw to see it to believe it. Not a nick of damage on either one ive got so far. The color options are beautiful. Its sturdy. For the price you cant beat it. This is DEFINITELY the best bookshelf on the market, without doubt, based on price and value. BUT if I could change one thing about the book shelf itd be that they have the option to add one more single tier rather than going up another 38”. this bookshelf is about 10” to short from being absolutely amazing. The photo has the bookshelves to the right. It sits just as tall as the top of a bed head board. The height of my desk. So its a lil akward but great non-the-less. ... show more

Excellent quality for the price. No assembly, just unfold and its ready to go. Also it appears well made and sturdy. If you plan to stack these, you need to make sure you attach them to the wall. Otherwise, its a perfect three shelf bookcase. Couldn't be happier!

... but the one we got was damaged (the bottom back rail and bottom shelf were separated) and it had to go back. That said, this is much more likely transit damage; we have half a dozen others of these shelves (most stacked 2-high) and they've stood up to internal and external moving. So, it gets 5 stars even though this one (#99 of 400) was unusable. ... show more

I've owned several generations of this product since it was sold by Home Decorators Collection (later Home Depot) in the late 2000s. Yes, it wobbles if you stack them and if you don't have the mantelpiece that HDC used to sell. Even with the mantelpiece (see picture), it doesn't feel the sturdiest, but I defy you to find another 6' tall bookcase that doesn't require a wall mount of some kind for stability. I would not allow children into an area with stacked bookshelves that were not properly secured. See other reviews for reports of Building 7 style bookcase collapses, but mine have remained standing over the years. In any event, I think that fold-flat bookshelves are better than sliced bologna, and I'm glad I can get the same stain colors that were available over a decade ago. Here are the differences that I've noticed between the product generations... FIRST GENERATION (Late 2000s) - Long (two-screw) shelf support brackets - Rear horizontal supports held in by hex-head bolts SECOND GENERATION (Early 2010s) - Short (single screw) shelf support brackets - Rear horizontal supports held in by hex-head bolts THIRD GENERATION (2020s) - Short (single screw) shelf support brackets - Rear horizontal supports held in by internal pins Aesthetically, the design of the third generation product is the cleanest, since it doesn't have bolts running down the sides. The first/second generation ones came with small wooden plugs to cover these up. Another reviewer said that the horizontal supports were held in by "metal staples" - there aren't visible staples in the 3rd generation, but there are tiny holes which appear to be evidence of a pin nailer. I haven't taken the shelves apart for a full reverse engineering, but the newer shelves have about the same amount of wobble as the older ones. I noticed the most warping (wood rubbing together etc) in the 2nd generation product. As for fit and finish, some of the brackets arrived at a slight angle on the 3rd generation product. A couple of the shelves will not fully seat onto the brackets without adding weight. But the black top pins lined up perfectly on my old mantelpiece, so they're doing something right. The shelves do not visibly sag when loaded with books. One thing that I gleaned from the Q&A section – The "(New)" stains simply have different packaging than the ones without "(New)". The packaging does contain styrofoam, but it's a compact box and there was no visible product damage when it arrived. If you buy these shelves, know what you're getting into. They could be hazardous, but I find them to be attractive and convenient. If I didn't own several already, I'd probably opt for a different design, for example, shelves with diagonal cross braces. But I'm glad that I can continue to expand my book collection into stackable, foldable, wooden bookshelves that match the ones I bought over a decade ago. ... show more
