I've never owned a kicker before but have thought about getting one several times. I have a few bedrooms that need to be stretched, as the carpet is several years old. This device is heavy and appears to be well made and durable. I tested it and it grabbed the carpet well. There is a nice pad on the end for knee comfort, and the teeth are firm and bent forward for maximum grip. I've watched professional carpet installers use similar devices several times, so I am familiar with the concept of carpet stretching, cutting off the slack, and pressing the edges down on the tack strip. I don't know if this would hold up to daily professional use, but it will certainly work for my occasional use and I'm very happy to have it.
