I've never had Carhartt clothing before. I'm an office worker and I've always though of this brand as something skilled tradesmen, laborers, and outdoor workers wear. I saw it being available though and thought I'd try them out. I have a shape that I think is difficult to find good quality clothing for. Decades of weight-training and conditioning have left me with larger than usual thighs, Most of my shorts are elastic waisted or drawstring because it's difficult to find athletically cut belted shorts or pants. I'm very impressed with these shorts! The material is strong and durable. I can see them standing up to hard work. But they also fit me very well. They are large enough in the thighs yet still well proportioned in the waist. The waist has loops for a belt, but also has some elastic in it, giving it some flexibility around the listed waist size. The pockets are excellent. This pportunity to try this brand has given me a new appreciation for it and I'm interested in trying other products from them. I don't have to be a laborer to wear well fitting, functional, and high quality clothes! While these are excellent, I still wonder about the value of a $54 pair of shorts. I would call this a fair value for my usage. They might have greater value to a someone using them for a work purpose. ... show more

Four stars only because they are a bit rigid. I know in the description it says that they're rugged, flexed, built, but I found them more rugged than flexible. They do have stretch to them but they're just a thicker material. I am used to shorts that advertise sun protection to be a bit thinner material and these are substantially thicker. They're still very well made. I love the Carhartt brand. It's just not what I was expecting. They are very comfortable and the waistband does have some nice give, which is great especially when you're moving around. These are terrific shorts. I got the Steel color in size 42. The material is 60% cotton, 38% polyester, and 2% spandex, which has a bit of stretch. There are two front pockets, two back pockets, and an additional pocket on the outside of the right leg. That lower leg pocket is big enough to hold my Android phone. The waistband stretches somewhat. There is a button closure, zipper, and belt loops. I usually wear size 42 or XXL shorts, and these fit me perfectly. The waistband provides enough support that I can wear them comfortably without a belt. Lengthwise, they end just above my knees. The Steel color is very neutral and pairs well with many other colors. Overall, I really like these shorts. They fit well and look great. The price may be higher than some other shorts, but the quality and fit make them worth it. ... show more

These are nice quality shorts. The fit couldn't be any better, good at the waist, hips, gluts, and quads. I am 6'3", 215lbs, and the 36" waist is perfect. I really like the 9" length, just above the knee and has a nice clean look. The material has good weight, feels durable and thick. Clean double stitching throughout. The main pockets are good size, easily holding today's larger cell phones. The elastic waist has good stretch, very comfortable. The main zipper is nice quality and seems durable. The fabric fits comfortably and doesn't restrict movement at all. Great color selection. They are a bit on the pricy side for shorts, but worth it for the quality, definitely recommend! ... show more
