  • Very good
Size: X-Large Color: Tarmac
Jacket is very warm. Used same jacket last year in 12 degree weather and did not get cold. I'm 6' 203 lbs. Ordered XL and perfect fit. Carhartt winter gear is excellent.

  • Pleased with jacket. Some comments
Size: Medium Color: Tarmac
I have light weight and heavy winter weight jackets. I wanted something to replace my only mid weight jacket. I am between a medium and a large. I've always found Carhartt stuff to run large. So I ordered the medium. The medium fits perfect for me. I will point out some things not mentioned in the description or reviews I read. I am cold natured so was concerned about the jacket being warm enough. I wore a mid weight sweat shirt underneath and went for a walk. Temp was mid 30's with a brisk breeze. Which was the conditions I bought the jacket for. I did not get cold. I expect the jacket would be fine to just below 30 degrees if you are not sitting. The jacket has ribbed knit cuffs inside the regular cuffs. I didn't see this mentioned but that's a huge plus for me. I'm 5'11 and wear 33 inch sleeves in a shirt. The sleeves were just slightly long. Fine for the purpose, but if you wear 32 inch sleeves in a shirt you might find the sleeves too long. That was a negative in some reviews. The shell is ripstop. But it's a very thick and dense ripstop. The material is thicker and stiffer than I expected. I didn't buy this for a work jacket. But it will no doubt take a lot of abuse. The jacket is also heavier than I expected due to the shell. Doesn't bother me but keep in mind if weight is an issue. The hood is well made and adjustable but I'm not using it unless it's snowing. The sleeves offer plenty of range of motion. I never feel like the jacket is getting tight across my back or chest. I bought the brownish color. And the color in the photo is accurate. I really like it. Not too brown. Not too khaki. I would buy the jacket again. ... show more

  • Great jacket
Size: Large Color: Tarmac
This is a really well made and designed jacket, as expected from Carhartt. The Full Swing features are fantastic, the material seems really durable, and the DWR should last awhile as I don't plan to wash it too often. It should be great for working outside in the winter with wind, snow, or a light rain. As with most Carhartt jackets, I'm somewhere between a Medium and Large size at 6' 185 lbs with relatively broad shoulders, minimal gut. I ordered both a Medium and Large because there was a sale and I wanted to get the right-sized jacket at the sale price, and Amazon's free return shipping made that easy. With the Full Swing design, I could get away with a Medium and a snugger fit. But opted for the Large so I could fit quilted bib overalls and an extra layer or two underneath no problem. The big difference between the two sizes seemed to be almost entirely in the chest/torso measurements. I believe the Large had slightly wider shoulders and longer sleeves, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if they were the same and the extra width in the chest was all of the difference in perception in that regard. The jacket has a cinch cord at the bottom hem, so the extra room in the large can be cinched up to prevent wind coming up. But I also thought that the extra room in the large would help the jacket breath a bit better while working outside and help me not overheat. If you're on the fence about what size to get: order a size down if you want a snugger fit, order your normal size in other brands if you want room for layers. The Full Swing design will accommodate both while maintaining full range of motion and comfort. The hood is very large, but assuming that's to fit over a hard hat. It was equally large on both the Medium and Large sizes. The zipper was a little smaller than I was accustomed to with Carhartts in the past and it was not a double, but it was also much easier to zip up and down - and seems plenty durable. ... show more

  • Best Coat I’ve Ever Owned
Size: Medium Color: Tarmac
After 10 years I of faithful service I finally retired my old Carhartt because I put it through the ringer and it was showing. Holes all up and down the sleeves, cuffs worn out and a giant slit in my front pocket. I went to the Carhartt store to check out what new stuff they had and I was originally set on getting the same jacket until I found this one. What an upgrade. It’s much more compact and doesn’t let air seep through the bottom. You’re arms can maneuver much better and this jacket is very warm. Also too I was originally going to get black like my last one but I saw they had a new version of brown that they had made this in. More of a tan brown and not a brown brown. It looks better on the eyes I think. Also a big plus is the fact you can detach the hood. I never wear a hood and this is perfect. Usually I only write reviews if I really hate something or really like something and this coat I really like. ... show more

  • Well made
Size: Medium Color: Tarmac
4 stars because sometimes the zipper has a hitch a third of the way up. Is a heavy duty zipper so I am hoping it will last. Overall seems like it is well constructed and the fabric is heavy duty.

  • Giving Carhartt a second chance!
Size: Large Color: Black
I like the style, fit, and price. My only gripe is some of the threads appear to be already coming loose especially around the cuffs. I hope this isnt indicative of the quality. I hope its just a minor defect and won't progess further than a few threads. Ive only worn it a few times seems very warm but hasnt been super cold either. If your roughly my size and medium build go for the large as it runs a bit small. I really love the how comfortable it is. Feels light but heavy enough to consider it a winter jacket. My last carhartt didnt hold up at all and lasted only a couple years before it started to wear out. Im giving the another shot as I always liked carhartts but it seems the quality has slipped in the last few years. I hope this jacket restores my faith in one of my favorite brands. ... show more

  • Perfect fit in tall
Size: X-Large Tall Color: Tarmac
I originally ordered an XL reg . I hated how it fit. Pockets were just under the chest. Bottom of jacket was short. I sent it back and ordered an XL tall. Absolutely love it. I love the material and weight of jacket. I live in NW Montana and it gets cold here. I have no doubt this will keep me warm and dry. I were an XL in most jackets. I'm 6 foot 235lbs. The tall was the way to go. The bottom of my jacket is about 4 inches past my waist. I would recommend this jacket. ... show more
