UPDATE: Customer service was nice enough to reach out and send me a new product free of charge although I was past my return window. The new device works perfectly! 3rd time is a charm in this case. Original review: The first one I ordered the pen would not click over to different depths no matter how hard you tried. My husband and to take pliers and force it to the 2 but you could not freely move it. I would have to prick my finger multiple times to get enough to use. I returned it and got a replacement. Unfortunately, I waited too long to use it and my return window has closed because when I went to use it I did the control solution test and it fails every time. I keep trying per the instructions and it reads low every time. Therefore, this new meter doesn’t work and is useless. Complete waste of money!

This is my first blood sugar testing kit, and I think it's perfect. It's really easy to use, once you get the hang of it. The first day might have taken me close to an hour between reading the instructions, etc. But now I can do the test in under 5 minutes. And the pin prick device is relatively painless. And as far as I can tell, the accuracy is bang on. Recommended....

I have used a number of blood glucose monitors over the years, and had high hopes for the CareSens monitor after reading the positive reviews. However, the test results I received were both inaccurate and inconsistent. After following all of the instructions, doing all the set-up steps and validating the meter with the test solution, I did a couple of tests in the early morning (fasting) and then went to a lab to have blood drawn for a regular set of tests, including blood glucose. This seemed like it might give me an idea of the CareSens meter’s accuracy. The readings on the meter were very high (124 and 133), and that afternoon I received the lab test results showing a blood glucose reading of 104, about average for me. I did another set of tests with the CareSens monitor the next morning, again fasting, and received readings of 135, 116, and 127. Over the past several years I’ve never had a reading (from a lab or from a home test kit) over 110. If this monitor were consistently high, then perhaps I could use it to look for any spikes in glucose levels. However, the inconsistent readings, to me, make it untrustworthy. Bottom line: the results were much higher than both the lab results and my historical levels, and even worse, they were not consistent within themselves. I returned the product to Amazon and will try another.
