  • Hydra Cap, part 2
Contains Captain America: Steve Rogers (2016) 7-11 The fake history that Kobik implanted in Steve Rogers' brain continues - we learn that growing up in Hydra school, Helmut Zemo and Steve were best friends. The history reaches the point where he's just about to get his powers. Back in the actual present, Hydra tries to liberate Sokovia from its dictator, so as SHIELD fights Hydra, that puts them in the position of defending a dictatorship. And Steve is right there alongside SHIELD. While continuing to follow the Red Skull's orders, Steve and Eric Selvig continue to plot against the Skull. The new Quasar defends Earth against the first wave of Chitauri. Maria Hill is on trial for Pleasant Hill and other nasty things she's been up to lately. She tries to bribe her way out. In a way, she both wins and loses. And Steve wins Zemo over to his side. I'm not quite sure I buy that, but the idea is that Steve has been visiting Zemo over a period of weeks, telling him the fake history. I should point out that while I like what I've read of this storyline so far, I'm relatively new to Captain America. I haven't been reading his adventures for several years. So I can understand why a devoted Steve Rogers fan would hate this series as much as I hate "Injustice" for the way it treats Superman, with the added reason to hate it - this takes place in the main Marvel universe - the only universe Marvel is writing about. (Marvel destroyed the multiverse, yet Franklin Richards is busy rebuilding it.) However, I can still see Steve Rogers there, buried under what Kobik did to him. He's still trying to do the right thing as he perceives it. Buy book 1 first. If you liked that, you'll like this one, and if you hated it, you'll hate this one. ... show more

  • Okay, but I hate Spencer's Maria Hill
The second volume of Steve Rogers' head trip takes a step back from volume one which I thought was really well done. The "Trial Of Maria Hill" was a single issue and lame. My biggest complaint about Nick Spencer is his version of Maria Hill. He writes her both as incompetent and unserious in all situations. Its tedious. The Hydra history is shaping up well and the multiple angles Steve has to keep up with is still fun. I don't know how long it can last but its worth your time. ... show more

  • A fun one-time read
I'm not sure this story will be any where near one of the classics for cap comics but I am enjoying a unique spin on the captain America mythos for now; that is until they hit reset using whatever magical object is available.

  • The trial is the less interesting part indeed.
As a continuation of the first volume I think the plot can see a bit longer and has a little less intensity, specially with the trial of Maria Hill. Nevertheless is quite interesting to notice how he's getting his strategies ready. He is the same man preparing for an impossible war. I liked the replacement for his new best friend ever. : D ... show more

  • Great story.
Love what is happening to Capt. Enjoy the new *history*. And the wickedness of his villains. Even those pure of heart can enjoy the New Capt story.

  • Good, not great.
It's certainly an interesting concept, but I'm not sure that the execution is on point. Spencer's dialogue is in danger of becoming Bendis-esque with some characters.

  • Like a country road
The comics are just getting heated up. So many twists and turns just like a country road, can't wait for the rest!
