The candle holder work's well with a long candle. I do place a small plate at the bottom of the candle holder, but so far nothing had spoiled over. I also melt a little bit of the candle at the bottom where the candle is placed to secure it. It is cute & sturdy.

I bought these for some Halloween tapered candles I had purchased. Now I will be using them year round. They are so cute I will not only be using them for Halloween, but I will be keeping them out all the time and just change the candle with the seasons. They were exactly what I was looking for.
