When my husband and I finally decided to build a deck, I was asked if I had any specific requirements...hehehe! YES!!!! NO SCREWS ON TOP OF THE DECKING! And so here we are several months later after we started our deck and I LOVE IT!!!!! Hubs thought that the tool worked pretty nicely. He did have to replace a bit once, and then he did have to make a adjustment after sometime to the tool because just from using it, it can loosened up which is normal I would think. He never said a cross word other than how his wife can't have any screws on the decking...I heard him mumble:) LOL! ... show more

    • A Solid and Easy to Use Tool to Screw Down Flooring
Style: Marksman Tool
I used this tool to screw down the 5/4 x 6 inch pine boards on the 12 x 16 foot deck. It is a solidly made tool and is simple to use. You must use the specified screws. The end result is screws installed on the beveled edge of the boards. The screws are counter sunk slightly and are less intrusive than face screwing or nailing the boards. The tool's screw guides insure the screws are driven at the proper angle and depth. A tip: the screwing will tend to creep a the board a bit as it bite into the flooring board and then the underlying joist .. so screw down starting with the board edge that does not yet have a board screwed down .. else you may get a slightly wider gap between boards. Another tip: these screws will not always back out .. so make sure they are where you want them. ... show more

    • Very good tool but a little overpriced.
I just finished an 800 sqft deck using this tool. It is simple to use and durable but here are a few tips/tricks I learned along the way. -The tools spacing ability is good but not sufficient. If you are laying a 10ft board and you just use this tool to space it then the board will probably be crooked. How much will depend a lot on the materials. I bought two of these and would use one at each end which helped a lot but many of the boards were still not straight. I would recommend using additional spacers to help keep the boards aligned. -Don't push down on the handle. Sure, it's tempting, but I can guarantee you'll break it off. I was very careful and it did not happen to me but I could see how easy it would be to break. If you are trying to squeeze the tool into a tight space, place your palm on the flat area below both handles and gently rock the tool a little. -If you are really in a tight spot, remove the spacer (the 1/16th spacer removes completely) and use it by itself. Why only 4 stars? -The tool is a tad expensive. It is of good design but there really isn't much to it. Materials wise, it probably should only be $25-$30. -The screws are decent but I did break a few and they are pretty expensive. For the same price you would get a much higher quality deck screw. -The star bits are only ok quality. A couple of mine bent and rusted. On top of that they are well overpriced compared to regular star bits. -Boards are not very easy to remove. I had to pull up a couple of boards for various reasons and it wasn't easy. It wasn't super complicated, but it was definitely more complicated than face screws would have been. ... show more

This is a great product!!! A deacon with no exposed nail heads looks wonderful. If you want to spoil yourself buy two of these and the project will go 3 times faster. This system will take a bit more time to install than face nailing but the results are MUCH better. If you really want to do your deck the correct way you should NEVER near the end of a board. Look at your current deck. I'll bet dollars to doughnuts that every board that is rotten rotted right where one board comes together end to end with another board and both boards land on one joist. Most would put two nails in the end of each board which splits the ends of each deck board AND puts 4 nails into the joist at the same place. The end to end boards trap water and lead I right down to a joist split wide open by FOUR nails and that is why decks fail. Instead run your deck in sections and do NOT stagger the deck board seems. Put all of the end to end seems in the same place and keep a 1/4 inch gap between each end. The framing below must have one joist which sits back 1 1/2 inches from the end of one deck board and another's joist that sits back 1 1/2 inches from the end of the other deck board. One extra joist every 12 or so feet but a cheap price to avoid nailing at the ends of deck boards splitting them and ruining the joist below. A trick I learned in Fine Home Building magazine years ago. I'd take a bet that this plan, with the Camo screw guide, and a rubbery deck joist cover will double or triple the life of your deck. ... show more

    • Easy to use, lifesaver, reasonable price

Wouldnt have survived my deck rebuild without this tool. Laid ~120 8ft deck boards (5/4in x 6in) and the Camo tool and screws made the spacing and securing pretty simple. Since you must use the Camo drill bit with the tool, it stops your power drill from over drilling, so it is near impossible to over-drill the screws. We even let my little nephew help screw a few screws down (with adult supervision). The screws are difficult to back out once installed (the threads run in a different direction on the top part of the screw), so be sure of your placement before screwing down all the way. Having the screws hidden on the sides of the boards creates a nice look and makes things easier when sanding your boards for stain preparation. Wouldn’t build a deck without it. Best money I spent on deck materials. Lots of videos on YouTube demonstrating how it works. ... show more
