Description

This one-of-a-kind history recalls the bygone era of cafe racers -- those motorcycles which earned an esteemed place among the mod coffee bar set of the 1950s and '60s. • Cafe Racers
This is the best source of 'really there' cafe racer history I have found so far. Based on the first hand accounts and the detail, I take it as authentic; but I realize there are pockets of people that may have different viewpoints. The book lays out the real history (pre-war and post-war), the eras and bikes preferred, the progression, as well as individuals and stories. My only problem is, I do not know whether to shelf this book with my other motorcycle books, or start a new section for cafe racing history. ... show more

  • Pretty good book
Pretty good book, and a great look back at motorcycling in Great Britain in the 50's, 60's and 70's. The real interesting part was noting the author's predictions, and how they turned out to be 180 degrees from what he thought. i.e. that nobody would be collecting Vincents or BSA's, or that they would be worth anything now (book was written in the mid/late 80's). ... show more

  • #2
This must be a good book. My original was stolen and I thought it worth while to replace at the higher out of print premium. For motorcyclists, it is a collection of lore, images, and inspiration, with a hint that factory products can do with improvement. For non motorcyclists, this book may lead to a sliver of understanding, and may even bring a few of you into the saddle. For us rockers, we're not retro, we never changed from the people in Cafe Racers. ... show more
