    • Looks great - but quality of finish is TERRIBLE

First, be prepared to spend most of your day assembling one desk and one matching file cabinet. We bought two 2 desks and 2 file cabinets, so that was 2 afternoons for me - and I'm good at this. Fortunately, I had a phillips screw attachment for my power drill -- but beware if you use one: these units are made of particle board and you shouldn't power drive screws all the way in! Finish the last few turns by hand or you'll risk stripping out the board. The finished product looks very nice, as pictured online. However, the veneer finish is the worst I have ever seen for any furniture we've owned. I was wrapping a box for shipping and a piece of tape landed, sticky side down, on the desktop. When I pulled it off, the "finish" peeled off with the tape! The "finish" is a "foil-on" fake wood finish (which I expected) but it is actually thinner than a sheet of printer paper. Literally like an onion skin. I was able to carefully separate the "finish" chunk from the tape and super glue it back into place. For nearly $520 per set I would expect some kind of real laminate on top of the particle board. For me, this is reduces the item to junk status. Bush used to do way better than this. Knowing what I do now, I wouldn't pay more than $300 per set -- or I would pass entirely. We may need to have a local glass company cut some tops to protect the desk tops. Very sad. ... show more

I purchased the desk and matching file drawers. The product is fine - but just a few comments about the 3 star rating. The desk and cabinet are completely disassembled. it took 2 men 3 hours each to assemble these 2 items. Although there were directions it was still a project. Also, I just threw out 2 large garabage bags of styrofoam packing materials that were in the packaging - not environmentally friendly. I'm familiar with the cam-lock assembly system (and love it) that "needs assembly" furniture makers have moved to so assembly was fairly easy - desk took 1 person about an hour to assemble with no power tools and the file took a little less. Would like to see the option to have the cabinet moved to the other side of the desk. ... show more

The desk and file cabinet are very nice looking once assembled and seem sturdy so far. There are a lot of pieces to assemble and I had difficulty with the nails on some of the backing—we just bought some actual wood nails and used those instead.
