Bumkins Chewtensils are intended for Stage 1 of baby led weaning – introducing babies to the concept of holding a utensil and feeding themselves. We made Chewtensils from soft, textured silicone that’s easy to grip and is gentle on tender gums, with bendable heads for safety. Introduce babies to self-feeding by giving them utensils that can be chewed on before transitioning to silverware. They are perfect for dipping into pureed foods at the early part of baby led weaning. Chewtensils are intended for babies before they have a firm grasp on self-feeding; best for dipping and scooping, not yet piercing solid foods. The back of the spoon head has sensory bumps to stimulate gums. Made from 100-percent food-safe silicone. BPA-free, BPS-free, PVC-free, phthalate-free, cadmium-free and lead-free. Dishwasher-safe. We purchased these two months ago but have only used them a handful of times (I always forget we have them). Last night as my little one was eating, I glanced over and saw this- I would not recommend buying this product as it is dangerous and an obvious choking hazard.

We own both the Bumkins and the Grabease. I really didn't want to pay the extra money for more of the grabease and felt it was a waste so I gave the Bumkins a try. My son has a lot of difficulty using the Bumkins version because the fork isn't hard enough to go through the food. He gets upset when I have to help him because he wants to do it on his own. The Grabease is made of a much harder material and when a child pushes down it goes into the food item. My son is a little over a year old, not sure if that is helpful for anyone. Based on him using both I would highly suggest not going with the cheaper version and just pay the little extra for the Grabease set. I gave this three stars just because the overall set isn't bad it just doesn't work as good as my Grabease version that he was already using. ... show more

These were such a great purchase for my daughter who was interested in feeding herself. The other spoons were way too long and she could not get control of it so would chunk it across the room and use her hands. She quickly learned how to grasp these and uses them very well to feed herself. They are silicone which makes them gentle on gums and the spoon has texture in the back which is great when she’s teething to scratch/ease her gums. Dishwasher safe which is a huge plus and come in several fun colors! My only Callout: the fork is weak and bendy just like stated in some of the reviews. Since my daughter is small and not eating crunchy full solid foods this isn’t a big deal for me but something to keep in mind. She can pick up bananas and pasta things that are softer but harder foods will make the silicone fork bend and give. ... show more

I’m a speech therapist and though we didn’t begin EATING real foods at the time, my then-four-month-old son was able to learn how to hold these and practice using breastmilk (dipped in) etc. and just used them dry. I’m not even exaggerating, my 6month old son began feeding himself immediately once we began food. Sure, it’s a bit messy but... he actually knows how to hold these and target his mouth. He LOVES them. I wish I could have 20 pair of these. I tell everyone I know about them. They are fantastic for eye/hand coordination and also for his motor skills. We started mashed purees with the num num spoons. My son got used being a handed a spoon that he wouldn't let us feed him. Any time we would try with a regular baby spoon, those long asss spoons they sell he would end up gagging because he would put it in too deep. These were the perfect little thing. I purchased these prior to researching BLW feeding. More so, it was just a cute spoon that I'd be able to feed my baby and for simply that, it works great. The handle is very short and it isn't easy trying to get purees out of jars. This, however, would be perfect for parents who are trying to do BLW feeding for baby. My 5 month old is easily able to grasp the spoon and feed himself. The utensils are made with a few little nooks and crannies, which can be frustrating to clean if you've left them out with food dried on it - but after soaking or just some good scrubbing, it's easy enough! If your baby is teething, I'd be cautious to not let them chew on them. I don't think they'd last too long if that were the case. ... show more

My son started using these at 12 months. While he had tried other baby utensils with varying success, the short length and round handle grips made these so much easier for him to use. The very first time he picked them up he was able to use them properly. I could tell by his face that he was happy mama had finally given him tools he could use!
