Remove the protective battery pull tab and get the party started. The power push button on the bottom is extremely tiny. Some of the foam sticks had very dim lights, as though the batteries were almost dead. The foam cap that seals the end is the first thing to go flying off when you start waving these around. After the foam insert is gone, the LED bulbs are visible and it looks like they might come flying out. The power button gives three flash patterns: fast flash, slow flash, alternating flash. The batteries are replaceable with three watch batteries, but in reality this is a disposable knick-knack. These are a really big hit at wedding receptions. My own attached photo doesn't do these Glow Sticks justice but my colors are much more accurate. Even my own photograph is much too harsh, but it's closer. (The seller should take a new picture so he doesn't scare off more sedate customers. I almost didn't order them because of the photograph. I'm so glad I took the plunge.) In real life there are no bright spots, just a pleasant, soft gradation from one color shading into the next. (Did you ever see one of those sunrises in which the sky is rosy? These Glow Sticks have that sort of look. I'd never seen this type of glow stick before, only the ones you bend to activate the chemical. Fortunately, another reviewer explained what to do. First, there is a tiny square tab that you pull out (I still don't know if I'm supposed to replace it after I turn the Glow Stick off, or if it matters). Then you push in the little button. And I mean little! I didn't even know it was a button until a reviewer said so. Instant happiness! That infinitesimally sized button is like The Little Engine That Could. It cycles effortlessly the lights through faster blink, slower blink, steady on, and off. The Glow Stick takes a replaceable battery. It is some type of non-crumbly foam and weighs nothing. It is more of a Glow Pillar than a Glow Stick: It is a foot and a half long and 1-1/2" wide. Thirty of them arrived in the securely packaged shipping box with no wastage. I was going to wait on submitting this review until I could report how long the battery lasts on fast-blink but it is holiday gift shopping time, so I decided to submit this review immediately because my cellphone stopwatch tells me it's already been on fast-blink for four hours. ... show more
