I had the luxury of meeting the author before the book was published, and heard and saw some of the projects during a presentation, and immediately pre-ordered the book. When it came I was totally pleased by the high quality of the projects, writing and photos. Asa has a passion for beginning woodworkers and this is a perfect book for them. I am fairly experienced and I can say that I learned more than enough to justify buying this book.. His emphasis on simple and more common tools has caused me to re-think how I approach some of my own projects and not always gravitating to more serious woodworking power tools.     • Good book but arrived with a dent in it.
The media could not be loaded. Book arrived damaged. See attached video. Being that it is a gift it’s difficult to give someone a book with a dent in it. The book is great with very good information.

    • Woodworkers of all levels, buy this book!
I am finding this book to be a peppy and fun read. Almost makes me want to get rid of my woodworking machinery and go back to only hand power tools. My dad was a master of the circular saw and hand drill. I have many fond memories of weekends in the garage building.     • Best book for a beginning woodworker
I have been woodworking for 20 years and recently bought this book for a friend who wanted to get started in woodworking. I wish Asa's book was around 20 years ago as it would have made me a better woodworker faster by helping me select the right tools to get a proper start in the hobby. I would highly recommend this book for someone just starting in woodworking! (And there are some useful ideas and great projects for us "old timers" too!") ... show more

The book has many ideas on projects to make and has the materials listed as well as the dimensions of what to cut. I would have liked it better had it had more projects listed but overall I am pleased with the book.

    • This book is for everyone and especially beginners.
I like this book. This book does not required expensive equipment to use. It is prefect for anyone who want to start basic. It show you how to set up small shop. Then it shows most projects very simply building. Easy to start right away. Stay on your motivation and go for your big goal.

This is a fun book. I'm new to woodworking and was was looking for a book with projects. Ordered this book and I'm so happy I did. Plans are easy to follow for a beginner and these projects make great gifts. Edit to add another project from book I just completed.
