These are beautiful, quality skates. They have a very smooth ride. They are lovely to look at and eye-catching, and seem well-designed. I trust German engineering, they generally have very high standards for safety and functionality. I don't know if this matters to anyone but the wheels feel thick and bouncy and rubbery to the touch which felt safe to me. The sizing didn't seem right for me though. Their website says to size up if you're in between sizes, but when you read blogs on the subject everyone says that roller skates should have your toes hitting right at the top of the shoe without space so that they act as an extension of your foot. These felt slightly too roomy on me, even with thick socks, and I think it did affect me feeling safe and secure. Since I am actually much closer to the size down, and given that they are a nice leather, I would think it more likely that the leather would stretch a little, so I'm returning them and getting the smaller pair. Heads up though, this is not an easy UPS store barcode return for U.S. customers, you do have to print a shipping label for it. If you don't have a printer, UPS will charge you $3 to print a label even though it's a "free return" through Amazon. Also to note, I must not have read the description carefully after looking at so many different products because I fell for the "Customers who bought these skates also bought this handy tool" Amazon up-sell, but it turns out, the only tool that you need to adjust the wheels and stopper is included in the box with these skates! ... show more

The media could not be loaded. I’m not a pro skater by any stretch, but I have been rollin’ for awhile. I have three other pairs from other brands, and while Chaya is still a respectable 2nd, BTFL has totally changed my skate game. I was in love by the time I’d laced up my first boot. 1) Comfort: if I’m not comfy on my skates, I’m screwed. These beauties are very pliable, and will eventually mold to my feet. They have padding where I tend to put the most pressure - until now I’ve been wearing my own ankle protectors, but no need with BTFL. 2) Wheels: these were the tipping point for me ~ I’m going from street/derby style to artistic, and these are exactly what I needed to add some grace to my moves. They’re the perfect width I need for dance, and the rounded edges make transitions so much more intuitive. 3: Heels: I don’t wear skates with heels. I’ve always had derby skates (they usually look like a skate shoe) - I think I thought they were more low key (plus I have fallen arches - heels HURT.) I take it all back. The little adjustment in balance helping all my turns and practice drills look 10x better. This whole brand is great at maintaining a retro feel with understated features that are essential to a quality skate. I have flat feet so I wear insoles, but I’m totally flabbergasted how much these heels in particular have helped my posture. 4) Style: I’ve skated Chaya, Moxi, Bont, and Riddell, and these just win over everything I’ve worn so far. I didn’t realize how beautiful they were until I was already wearing them, but these are genuinely lovely skates. I’m so excited at the adjustable toe stop and the extra ankle support, and the laces are long enough to wrap around through the back loop if I want more stability. BTFL, 12/10. I can’t say enough. Whoever you are, if you’ve looked at these skates more than once, please trust me when I tell you these are IMBECCABLE. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. So I use to skate as a kid all the time into my teenage years and all I remember is the pain and agony that skates caused my ankles. I knew when wanting to get back into skating as a form of exercise I knew I needed something COMFORTABLE!! Now that I am older I have absolutely no tolerance for ankle or foot pain. After reading many reviews and watching YouTube videos on the best skates allot of popular higher priced name brands were suggested but because I am a returning skater at a much later age then I was once familiar I didn’t know if I would stick with the sport so I didn’t want to spend too much but still wanted a good quality. These suede skates are ABSOLUTELY THE MOST COMFORTABLE, CUSHIONED skates. They really protect your ankles and they glide with such ease right out the box with no adjustments. I will definitely buy another pair. This is no fluff if you would know me, I am a stickler for my feet and comfort so to find such an affordable skate with this quality is a blessing for me! I bought the taupe color with blue wheels and laces and they look so classic and expensive in person. The color contrast are very esthetically pleasing. I purchased toe covers from moxi to color coordinate to protect the toe since it is a soft but still durable suede. Happy I went with my instinct and didn’t allow some of the other professional in my preferences skater deter me from trying them out. Oh and last to add I have a narrow size 6 women foot so I got my size without sizing up or down and they fit perfect with enough room to wear socks and still feel spacious but fitting for support of the foot. I bought these last year and have just purchased a second pair so that I have one dedicated indoor, and one dedicated outdoor pair. For the price, this is the best suede and aluminum plate combo. It is a rare find. Suede is super comfortable. Sizing was exact for their chart. They come with the hybrid wheel, a 90A. This works great for the rink. For the outdoor pair, I'm swapping to a 78A. I have 8 friends who all separately purchased this brand, none of us planned this, it was all our own research, and we're all very happy. Some of them purchased the other versions of the BTFLs.
