Description

From the mind of Tim Schafer (Psychonauts, Grim Fandango) comes Brutal Legend, the ultimate heavy metal action game starring Jack Black (School of Rock, Tenacious D). You are heavy metal roadie Eddie Riggs, hurled back in time to the mythical Age of Metal when the world was formed and ruled by the power of Rock! Armed with a broadaxe, a guitar, and a big block V8 you set off on an epic quest to assemble an army of headbangers, hotrods, barbarians, demonic dominatrix and the undead. With the wings of a demon and the power of a Rock God, you must lead humanity in an epic war against its barbaric overlords, and carve your name forever into the Brutal Legend. In Brutal Legend, you'll roam through a massive open-world born from the hell fires of heavy metal. In this world you can rev up any vehicle, rock its weapons, and crush the enemies of metal. You'll also learn to devastate with your guitar, playing face-melting solos that actually melt the faces of your enemies, command savage armies, bang skulls in hand-to-hand combat, and rise like a bat out of hell to command blood-drenched action from above. As if that wasn't enough, you can slay your friends and foes online, then play guitar licks on their graves! Of course, Brutal Legend is only complete with the most ultimate heavy metal soundtrack ever assembled in a game.Features:Slay your friends and foes online. • If you are on the fence, disregard my complaints and support Double Fine to ensure a sequel!!!

Basically, if you want my review in a nutshell, I think that if you are a fan of heavy metal, comedy, and video games, you have no excuse NOT to buy Brutal Legend. The characters, world, and soundtrack are ALL top notch and worth full price alone. This is because they are above and beyond what you will typically find in most video games, and pleasantly enough, much better than any Jack Black movie. So, expect to have laughed, headbanged, and stood in awe of the creative environments many times over before it is completed. That is why I loved it and the reason why I will recommend it to friends, not what is holding the game back. What really does, however, is the relatively short length and flawed gameplay. Maybe I have been spoiled by better action games but the regular fighting mechanics are not very tight or fun, just serviceable. The end result was desiring to finish these stages quickly with incredibly powerful guitar solos, rather than relish in the enemies' bloodshed during the heat of combat. Neither are the totally unexpected RTS portions of the game that amazing, because if you've never played the genre before, like me, they are not explained as well as they should be and you only get the hang of it by the last few battles. Of course, by then, it is fun enough that you will wish there was more because the game is only about 7-8 hours long, assuming you do a good portion of the side missions. Overall, though, this is a fantastic game with lots of potential to achieve greatness if a franchise is ever established, which should explain my title. The aforementioned problems can be fixed; the driving, which I have no problem with, could be made to be more twisted-metal-like; we could get more heavy metal stars like Dave Mustaine, Brendon Small, or Shagrath into the game; and maybe, just MAYBE, we can feature some Iron Maiden, Metallica, and Arch Enemy on the soundtrack. Opeth is unlikely but would also kick ass, and even if a sequel is more of the same it will still be good, since it seems like the world is rich enough to support many future adventures. The problem is, this didn't sell nearly as well as the developer had hoped and was left in the dust in favor of less original, more of the same sequels like Call of Duty and non-games like Wii Fit. We'll need to do all we can to change that, so buy this game new if you haven't, spread the word and hopefully we can make this into a cult hit. ... show more

  • Jack Black does it again! :)

I'm not a gamer, per se, so I'm not really qualified to comment on the particulars of the game. This was a gift for my husband, who was itching to get the full version after trying the demo. Suffice to say, the man is nuts for it. He LOVES it! He's even said it may be the best game he's ever played (as in, his "most favorite"; he may have played others that were technically better but, then, what do I know?). What's cool is that his non-gaming wife can sit in the same room while he plays it for hours on end. I love Jack Black so it's fun to watch and hear this character he's created. I'm also a fan of the music in the game's soundtrack. There's a good variety of rock to listen to, from hard to almost-hardest. Finally, I love that there's a lot of humor interjected into the story. I crack up over the gang of big guys who follow Jack's character around, constantly air-banging their heads! (I used to know some people who were alarmingly similar, which makes it all the funnier.) I would recommend it based on watching hubby have nonstop fun, as well as for having a storyline and style that makes it entertaining for onlookers. I'm also pleased to say that I had a flawless experience with the shipping; this was the first time I ever used 1-day ("overnight?") delivery and it arrived on time without a hitch. ... show more

I play this game with my girlfriend and our boy(10) . It may be a little violent and the cursing is blatant, but you can bleep the cursing (Which adds to the fun)and you can turn off blood, which only adds to the myth that kids who see blood in video games will become blood thirsty,(so you know, I left it on!)I am not a fan of the upside-down pentagrams used as GPS mission checkpoints. All that being said, the game is amazing. The sound track is back to back classic heavy metal infused with the game fighting. The game itself looks like you are in a TOOL video mixed a little with Camelot lore and a little bit of Outlaw motorcycle madness. You have two weapons an ax and guitar. After a few hours the ax turn into mostly show, and the guitar is like a magic wand that uses solos to dispel monsters and baddies. There are boss-fights with platformer-game elements built in, but this is more like an open world adventure than like a Mario. There are also RTS elements, but will not give you anymore details, to prevent spoilers. There are several rock-star cameos. if you love heavy metal then you simply need to enjoy a game built for you. This game should not be missed by anyone. I purchased it for 20 dollars right here from amazon. I got plenty of value out of it. I hope there is a sequel, and would grab it up, even with a price north of 20 dollars. ... show more
