Best Overall XX Wide Shoe for Women!

I've been struggling most of my life to find shoes that are wide enough to not cause any major discomfort or pain in my feet, and the Ghost Max 3 is BY FAR the best shoe I've found. I've tried Skechers, New Balance, and Altras, to name a few brands you may be familiar with. I still long for the goga mat insoles of skechers, but at some point their shoes became narrower and narrower over time. It came to a point where going up 2 or 3 sizes still wasn't enough to get the width or height I needed for my "high volume" foot. I stuck with New Balance for a while because it was more widely available to try on in stores etc. But eventually they phased out some of the wider models that fit me too, and had meager offerings for any true XX Wide shoes for Women. Then I tried Altras. I LOVE the toe box on Altras, but as many others call out in their reviews--the midfoot area is often too tight. I also felt that Altras seem to target very active folks, so a lot of their shoes are designed for specific needs like cross training or hiking rather than everyday use or walking. I would still totally recommend Altras to any wide feet friends who are targeting those needs, OR who want a low drop/zero drop shoe with less cushioning. Personally however, the Brooks Ghost Max 3 (and hopefully future models of this shoe line) will continue to be my holy grail. My BIGGEST COMPLAINT is that there are only 2 color options (that I've seen on Amazon and the Brooks home website) for the XX Wide version of this shoe for Women. They are also not my top picks of the colors they offer for the regular width, and I have seen others say the same. ADDITIONALLY, the Ghost Max 4 is now available for pre-order and still continues this trend. In fact, the colors available of the 4 are so horrid that I'm contemplating getting another pair of Ghost Max 3's to hold me over until the next generation. If Brooks truly needs to cut costs by offering only 2 or 3 color options for XX Wide models, I feel like it would be better to keep options simple and flexible. Rather than some slightly funky option and an all black shoe (which often gets called out as ugly because they look like food service shoes), I think a better solution would be... 1. All White 2. Black Upper, White Sole 3. All Black (Or their most popular color ordered in regular widths based on pre-order, released at a slightly delayed timeframe). I would knock off a star for color options on the XX Wide widths, if it weren't for being afraid that these shoes might disappear completely lol. I would rather have a shoe that actually fits and is comfortable than looks pretty, so I guess it is what it is. As a side note, one other thing that might be worth mentioning is that I think the base model of this shoe is fantastic, but could possibly be upgraded based on your personal needs with an insole that targets whatever your specific needs are. I tried out an insole that I bought for my previous pair of shoes (recommended to me based on a professional fitting at a shoe store) and it felt like an entirely different shoe. Recommended for my flat feet by Google AI - It works !

Love my Brooks... have purchased 17 and now Max 3. The Max is like walking on air. It helps out my knees a lot. It looks great as well. I got a lighter color this time as opposed to black on black, and I am happy with it. As usual the material and quality is great

Comfy for the feet, rough on the back

UPDATE 10/2/26*** I reached out to Brooks explaining my disappointment in the Ghost Max and the back and knee pain they caused. They apologized and wanted to make things right so they sent me a link to select a new pair of Ariels, no cost to me at all. What a great brand!! Updated from 3 stars to 4 (I'd like to do 4.5) *** I bought a pair of Brooks Ariel GTS 6/2025 and they cleared up my plantar fasciitis almost immediately. Loved them. Fast forward 8/2026 I felt the support was not as good so set out to by a new pair of Brooks. After some research I discovered GTS wasn't the best thing for high arches and settled on Ghost Mac 3. I don't by shoes for looks, but for functionality. They were a little bouncy and took some getting used to so I wore them around the house a bit and then a few hours a day outside. Reviews said because the feet are not in contact with the ground due to all the foam it will take awhile to adjust. So a month in and after walking Less than 20 minutes my back hurts - to the point that it's still bothering me the next day. After spending $110 on shoes I don't want to give them up but I bought them for walking and now I'm sidelined because my back hurts. 9/2026. ... show more

I always love a good pair of Brooks shoes. I listened to the reviews and ordered a half size bigger, and they were too big. As you can see in my picture, the 7.5 caused a bunching of the fabric when I got them as tight as I needed them to be. Whereas the size 7 didn’t cause that when tightened. I say these are true to size and you should order your usual. I also have wide feet and bought them in wide. Amazon didn’t have them in 7W when I went to reorder, so I purchased from DSG. Great comfort
Size: 10 Color: Coconut/Chateau Grey/Blue
Great shoe for walking and running. I was looking for a lower heel-toe drop (6mm) walking shoe with a wider toe box and a bit of roll motion. These Brooks Ghost Max 3 had all three requirements and fit perfectly for me. The mesh has an added layer and shouldn't rip or tear as quickly as other brands. The bottoms are non-slip and grippy. The laces are flat and they stay tired and in place. They are light weight but provide structure so no ankle rolling. They are a neutral gait shoe. I also tired the Ghost Max 4 (lastest version) but they have changed the toe box and it is more narrow and not comfortable for me. Best for walking all day on concrete!

I average around 18,000 steps per day on concrete, rotating between walking and standing still to assist customers. I have tried many other brands of shoes, but these are the best I have found. I have had pain in the balls of my feet, the outter sides of my feet, the arches ( I am flat-footed and walk on the inside edges of my feet) as well as knee and lower back pain. But these shoes helped with all of that. I have had these shoes for almost 6 months now and they are still going strong. The only downside I have had is that the laces are slick and will slide loose after walking for hours. I just tighten them when I have a break. You can always buy different laces for this, I just haven't bothered because it is not a huge inconvenience for me. ... show more

I love Brooks for comfort. I literally took these out of the box when I got them and walked 2.5 miles with no blister, no pain, just like I had them for months. I will buy more for sure, but Ill be more careful of the design. I got these in a light gray, which Ive had similar before. However these didn't have that little rubber piece that comes up in the front to guard the toe. I have noticed that these are always dirty. So if I wear them on a damp or rainy day, the water splashes up with every step. Maybe its just me, but I haven't noticed it with any of my other Brooks or other brands to this degree. A darker color obviously wouldn't be so noticeable. But for comfort these are awesome. I will note to that they are slightly wide. I generally wear a wide shoe, but these, tend to wrinkle a bit when I snug them up. Not awful, but more than most! I also wish they'd come out with some more shades of gray. There's so many black and light blue... who wears light blue lol and white/peach all get dirty quickly unless you don't wear them as a daily shoe. Just my 2c for Brooks! ... show more
