This is my second pair of Brooks Ghost shoes. I have narrow feet and it has taken me years to find a brand for walking shoes that I could rely will fit when I need a new pair. I am a size 11 narrow in shoes. I came across Brooks about 3+ years ago. I had never worn them but I have tried Nike, Adidas, New Balance, Asics, Naturalizer, and Sketchers. New Balance were the only ones that fit my but they lacked any design or fun colors for what I wanted in a shoe. I am a heavy walker, meaning I strike the ground a little hard with each step, so there is pressure on my heels. I like the Ghost model shoe because it has a good amount of heel cushion without losing stability. Brooks uses some material that provides cushion and a little bounce without being too springy feeling. Some brands soles are very squishy and/or thick causing a lot of lateral tilting movement which can result in me twisting my ankle. Who needs that? I prefer to get black shoes, again size 11 so they can double as a canoe, but I like that I still have a little color on the shoes. I very much dislike all black athletic shoes with black uppers and black bottoms - to me they look like old man shoes. The first Ghost model I bought lasted me over 3 years, though I've needed to replace them for a couple months, they still stood up and provided good support. Honestly I would still be using them but the fabric on top finally starting splitting from wear. I do walk about 10,000+ steps/per day so they have gotten tons of use since I use them every single day of the year. The soles were still in good shape with tread left which was not my experience with Nike or New Balance. So if you need a pair of reliable, comfortable, supportive and cute shoes I highly recommend Brooks. :) ... show more

Review of: Brooks Women’s Ghost 17 Neutral Running Shoe Color: Grey/Chateau Grey/Portabella Size 7.5 By measurement, I'm a size 7 regular/medium. Most of my exercise shoes are 7.5 regular, as is this one. The width is perfectly comfortable on me. Snug at first, but after 3 weeks of a lot of wear they feel incredible. Length is great, although just barely. The foot bed is soft but firm. Not squishy. I need a decent arch support and these are nice and high and sturdy. The color (see above) is gorgeous and will coordinate with anything. The heel stays put without sliding. The heel also has the new heel style that makes them easy to slide your feet into, and you don't feel it at all when you point your toe. Great cushioning in the soles. I feel stable and straight with my slight overpronation. I immediately went on vacation when these shoes arrived, so I took a chance. I walked about 10,000 steps a day for 8 days! Including rushing through airports. These shoes felt amazing the entire time. Only took a couple of days to stretch just perfectly to my feet. At first they were digging into my ankles :( It's towards the front of the inner ankle on both shoes/feet. After an hour in them I had dents in the skin. It's right at the point where the top shoe lace hole is. It's a hard piece with no cushion. The Ghost 14 was not like this. However, I took those points and bent them backwards quite aggressively several times in the first day. I also loosened the laces all the way down the shoe, then tied them just a bit looser than I normally would. I wore them around the house for an entire day like this and they felt GREAT. Then I took them on my trip and had no issues. So I was able to completely solve that issue. I've seen others complain of the same thing. I have skinny ankles, a bit bony you might say. So it's not an issue of my size. So although I do think the manufacturer should try to fix the issue, I was able to fix it myself. It's a great shoe and I highly recommend. ... show more

I was looking for a comfortable, breathable, and good-looking sneaker and Brooks Women's Ghost 17 met all my requirements. The shoe is flexible with good arch support. I also needed a wide toe box to support for my big toe. I cannot wear barefoot sneakers because my left toe gets no support and it can be very painful. So far, I have no complaints. Color is brighter than picture, which I love. They protect my feet, no foot pain, right shoe is a bit wonky, my foot curves to the left--that may well be my foot, though-think I can fix this by walking more correctly.

    • Stability and Comfort Right Out of the Box!

I love these shoes! I’ve had glycerins as well, but these fit my foot better. Glycerins are great if you need extra cushion. But I need stability and support for my arthritic hips. Ghosts are very stable and a little more fitted in the heel. They also have structured rubber on the outside of the heel making them easier to slide into without damaging the back. I size up a half size just like I do with glycerins. The toe box is rather narrow making them feel short. By sizing up they fit very comfortably and there is no break in period needed. ... show more
