Why, why did I wait so long to buy waterproof athletic shoes for the winter? These are great shoes. I used my own inserts that I use with every shoe, so can’t comment on the insert they come with. Wider toe box than my regular tennis shoe, not as bouncy as my regular tennis shoe. However, bottoms have more ridges and far more grip than my tennis shoes, and these have a wider toe box. Wore these without breaking them in much on a week long hiking trip in Pacific Northwest. Never had one issue with them. Lightweight, comfortable, great support and waterproof! I inadvertently slipped off a mossy rock into a shallow steam and my foot remained dry!

Can always count on Brooks for great plantar fasciitis support and comfort, while walking long distances. Took a chance with these as I had a lot of hiking planned this fall, and was not disappointed. Had a very short break in window, and have had countless issues with all other hiking shoes and boots in the past. These shoes r good for working outside, but less comfortable than Ghost. However, they r reasonably water proof and have held up ok so far. The price of Brooks shoes is ridiculous.

I give 10 stars! I'm a Brooks girl. I tried several of the high dollar big name hiking sneakers. They weren't great. Since I'm a Brooks tennis shoe girl I researched these. Boy! Am I glad I did. I have been hiking for over 30 years. I just returned from Guatemala volcanoes during the rainy season. The most treacherous hiking of my life. I hiked through rivers, mud slides, loose rocks, wet sand, and wet lava rocks (like glass). These shoes supported my feet like clouds. The traction was 10+++. My feet stayed dry the entire time. I just can not say enough about these shoes. I by far will only wear Brooks! The cost compared to other high end hiking sneakers is minimal. The style is great. The color is great. I am a Brooks girl, and they tend to last me about a year with me wearing them daily. That being said it was time for a new pair. I like the color, and I need a wide front. I also need and arch support. This shoe does it all. The arch isn't 100% perfect, but it is better than other brands out there. I have worn these all day for a few days now and there is no discomfort in the honeymoon phase you sometimes get either. I also like the fact this shoe is waterproof, considering I am a walker, and I do get caught in the rain at times. ... show more

This Brooks Cascadia 16 GTX Waterproof shoe is a great find. Purchased my usual 1/2 size large and the fit is perfect. The support in the arch is evident; a much stiffer outer sole is helpful for rough terrain. The Goretex material insures a waterproof shoe.
