  • Adds variety to the wooden train sets, looks great
Style: Travel Train
This Brio train set is a nicely detailed and sturdy toy that keeps my toddler engaged for long durations. There are a few things that I would like to call out: 1. This train is compatible with Thomas, Imaginarium and other standard wooden railroad tracks. However, there is a slight curvature on the sides of the cars, about half an inch above the wheels. This increases the width of the train set a bit - so not all bridges with side rails may allow the cars to pass through freely. Ours needed a light nudge at the leading end of the bridge to continue its journey. We tucked in a small piece of paper on either side of the bridge where the side rails meet the wooden track, so that the plastic side rails stay wider and do not bend inward at all. Problem solved! 2. As some others have noted, there is noticeable power difference between the forward and reverse directions of the engine car. Our train is able to easily pull (forward drive) up to two additional wooden cars. But when in reverse drive, the train is generally slower with just the two cars, there is an increased propensity for the cars to go off-track at curves or interchanges and climbing bridges is painstakingly slow. I would imagine that one would be happy with the bi-directional feature if used on level tracks only. 3. The On/Off switch (that also doubles as the forward/ reverse toggle) seems to require a good amount of force to operate. I believe that the sensitivity of the switch has gotten worse with time, and my 3 year old is now unable to switch it off or change direction. I also find it difficult to operate the switch. Interestingly enough, I always end up switching it from forward to reverse before being able to 'stop' the switch in the 'Off' position. 4. Contrary to some other reviews, I like that the flip-up parts of the train are removable. They do not come loose when the train is operated, or let's say, if the train falls off a bridge on the set. But at the same time, if you step on the train or if the toy is thrown, these parts are separated, thereby preventing breakage. They fit right back without any hassle. Overall, this is a nice passenger train with great looks and reasonably good battery life ... show more

  • One of the better battery operated wooden rail trains for your buck!
Style: Travel Train
My 5 year old is obsessed with all things trains. We're in the middle of potty training (he has autism) and I wanted to have some "potty presents" prepared for him to help motivate him to tell us when he needs to go. This was one of the first ones he opened and he was absolutely delighted! It works quite well on all brands of wooden track we have on our train table and only derails occasionally around tight turns. I like that it's thin enough (unlike some of the other battery operated Brio trains) to fit through some of the bridge track we have without getting stuck. I also love that unlike most other trains it comes with a little conductor you can put in and take out and play with. It also goes both backward and forward with the push of a button. It's not very fast and doesn't make any sounds or have lights but it's cute and fun and my son has loved playing with it. I can definitely recommend this as one of the better Brio trains for your buck! I did NOT receive this for free or at a discount! Hope this helps! ... show more

  • A Train Table Favorite
Style: Travel Train
The Brio Travel Train is one of our grandson’s favorite accessories on his train table. Most of the pieces he has are wooden and manual, so just having something battery operated gives him great delight. A conductor thrown in makes one happy boy. This set measures about 8” long—each train car is about 4” long. It runs smoothly on our tracks, and the little man fits nicely into all three compartments. The only difficulty we have is sometimes stopping it. The train runs in both directions and requires a push down on one directional arrow or the other. Stopping it is the opposite--making sure neither arrow is depressed, and that’s not so easy for a three year old. We solved the problem by showing him that all he needs to do is put two fingers over each directional arrow at the same time. That action ensures neither arrow depresses. It requires picking up the trains, but that is part of three year old fun, and he doesn’t mind at all. He enjoys playing with this train on tracks and everywhere else in the house ... show more

  • My son loves it
Style: Travel Train
We love Brio and my son loves his “monorail” however beware my son has long hair and it got pulled up in wheels when running it and ripped out HUGE chunk of my sons hair!

  • Great Train - the only battery operated "people" train we could find.
Style: Travel Train
My son loves his battery operated Thomas (and is crazy about trains), so we weren't suprised that he also loves this train. It is more powerful than Thomas, and it holds people (or plastic dinosaurs, or whatever) - so what is not to love. Being Brio, it is a little pricy. But this was a birthday gift from Grandma - so no worries on that. Also, it is a little wider than some of his other trains, so I think he has one bridge that it won't go through. (It should be noted that our tracks and other accessories are all from other brands - not Brio. If all of your stuff is Brio, this might not be an issue.) All in all, my five year old is very happy. And this has brought new enjoyment to his pre-school train set that he was probably just starting to grow out of. Hopefully it will give him another year of enjoyment out of his wooden train set before he wants to graduate to Lionel. ... show more

  • Nice motorized train
Style: Travel Train
This is a cute battery operated train. Easy use for almost any age. It doesn’t go as fast as Thomas engine trains, but it is still a nice train for play. Perhaps the batteries will last longer
