  • My boy loves it
Style: Engine Pattern Name: Toy Train Set
The paddle switch is nice because my toddler can actually turn it off so the battery isn’t constantly running out like that toggle switch ones.

  • It’s ok, can’t handle too many cars with a hilly track though.
Style: Engine Pattern Name: Toy Train Set
The media could not be loaded. For what it is, it does fine, but this is certainly not built for large hauls, as in more than 1-2 cars attached. It does a bit better when you put it at the end and let it push the cars. It derails somewhat easily when it’s on corners or straightaways where the track doesn’t line up perfectly. But overall, it’s good, I mean what do really expect from a train engine that uses 1 battery. We never expected it to be super powerful. You just have to have realistic expectations. ... show more

Would be great if battery can last longer

  • Works great as secondary engine for longer trains
Style: Engine Pattern Name: Toy Train Set
First one I ordered the switch was defective, second one, one of the wheels was deformed so it will from time to time jump track, speed differs from off brand cars so just keep that in mind.

  • Fun little train for Brio lovers
Style: Engine Pattern Name: Toy Train Set
My three year old son loves this train. It's fun to play with, but isn't perfect. What's great: - it only takes one AA battery which is relatively easy to change as well. - the led light is cute - it's powerful enough to pull a longish train What could be better: - the buttons are not easy to push for little ones - the train is taller than many bridges and tunnels in the standard brio set - it often gets caught on downhill and uphill climbs - only one axel spins so it sometimes needs to be reversed to climb hills or pull certain trains - a bit overpriced for what you get The other thing I'll mention that didn't occur to me - part of the magic of Brio is the imagination of pulling the trains yourself. I've found that once I introduced the battery engine, my son stopped using his old engines. This could be the novelty of the new engine at work, but it may be something to consider because unpowered brio are so delightful as-is. I have a feeling that once you introduce powered trains there is no going back. ... show more

  • Let's be fair to this little engine. . .
Style: Engine Pattern Name: Toy Train Set
OK, let's be fair here. This is a very little engine. It runs on one (1) AA battery. It is a child's toy. Does it go fast? No. Is it supposed to go fast? Probably not (back to that child's toy thing). Should this little engine be expected to drag 20 cars up a vertical slope? No. That would be insane. So here is my two cents worth: This engine does what it is expected to do-- haul two or three small cars slowly along a wooden track (designed for children) and go over a moderate slope. If you want it to perform flawlessly all the time, you might want to forget the slope altogether. Either way, it does work well for what it was designed for. Now, if you want to make a larger train, than you simply pull a simple trick that Union Pacific does when they want to run a larger train-- add more locos. And yes, it does work. Now, I must admit, I am still a very big kid at heart and I got my train set for me, so I can invest in getting more locos for my track. So my train consist is hauling 9 fairly large cars with three locos-- two in the front and one pushing in the back. I do have a flat track with no slopes. The engines do struggle a little with it, but they do perform well. I am very satisfied with the performance of these little engines, especially considering what I am asking them to do. All in all, if you want a simple train hauling a few simple cars around a simple track, this should do for you. And you can always add to it. If you want a high performance train zooming around a complex track at break neck speeds, get a real model train set. Just be prepared to spend a lot more for it. ... show more

  • Awesome Train! Great Quality as expected from BRIO!
Style: Engine Pattern Name: Toy Train Set
Some of the negative reviews made us hesitant to buy this green "Freight Battery Engine" train for our young child who loves his Brio style trains and tracks. After researching a lot this one seemed like the best choice, regardless, and we got it for him for Christmas. This train has been so great! It's exactly what you would expect from Brio: solid, dependable, fun. The train pulls 3-4 cars easily over hills on the track and can pull 10+ cars around the flats, it doesn't move fast but it keeps on chugging along and never gives up. It's been treated pretty roughly with no problems and we haven't even had to change the battery yet (great battery life). Overall, I don't know if Amazon has some counterfeit ones in the mix or some reviewers just have unrealistic expectations, but this train has been great! Our son loves it. ... show more

  • Rubber tread repair
Style: Engine Pattern Name: Toy Train Set
Like others the rubber tread wear down to the plastic rim causing the engine to lose traction. I used a sharp single edge razor blade to carefully cut and remove the rubber washer sandwiched within the rim. I used an O-ring slightly smaller inner diameter than the outside diameter of the rim, and having a thickness slightly larger than the space between the halves of the rim. Carefully, slip the O-ring over the rim. Pesto! See photo. WARNING: The drive wheels do not turn when the motor is turned off. Use the on-off switch to advance the wheels. DO NOT attempt to advance the drive wheels manually while removing the old rubber and installing the O-ring. You will strip the gears and damage the motor irreparably. Therefore kids, and grownups, can unwittingly cause the gears to be stripped by manually pushing the engine. ... show more
