We are a big fan of Brio and my son wants to be a Fireman when he grows up so this seemed like a nobrainer. But the set is not compatible with the smart tech train we have and I do not plan to buy the OTHER "record & play train" (especially at $65 for one engine). Huge Brio fan but This was a huge disappointment Brio!!! The packaging clearly makes it appear as though it makes sounds and IT does not without another really expensive train that is not even shaped like a fire truck! Huge disappointment. Package makes it appear to make sound, which it does if you buy the specific train which is $50+. Why in the world wouldn’t you make the fire truck make the sound as it passes under? Or just have a simple button to push on it? I’d send it back but the kids have already been playing with it and really love the fire truck. Will not be buying anymore “smart techs” in the future. ... show more

You need to have a separate smart tech engine to make the sound effects.

Purchased this item and someone else was going to get engine that works with it. However, we have yet to find only the engine. They all come with the tunnels or they are kits with other items. Not sure why they would sell this when you can’t purchase only the engine to go with it. And for the price of Brio brand, just get the other brands that are compatible and less expensive. You could have a small fortune in this stuff. We have a mix of both and they are equally as good. Very upset that we purchased this item. ... show more

Dissapointed. You have to buy a $50+ smart train to make it work. It's not clear about that, even in the instructions.
