We’ve been producing the highest quality handcrafted sticks and canes for more than 15 years. Our products are made by skilled craftsmen in small, “cottage industry” workshops located within a few miles of our facilities. Brazos walking canes offer natural appeal because they are made from real wood. You can see the fine detail and beauty of the actual tree. Each cane is a work of art. it is common for the canes and sticks to have cracks, especially on the ends. These naturally formed cracks do not inhibit the stability of the staffs in anyway but help define the character.

I was looking for a wooden hiking stick for rainy and muddy day hikes. I have the telescoping kind, but the bottoms are pointed and I was terrified that I would fall and somehow puncture myself, as I have spectacular fails on the regular. These sticks have a nice wide bottom with a rubber, no-skid, end cap. Most impressively, the wood chosen is shockingly light as well strong. It’s also terrifically smooth and I have not gotten blisters. I’m 5’8” and got the 55” length and I find it perfect. Brazos Trekking Pole Hiking Stick is much better than any cane that I have ever owned or used. The 58 inch walking stick gives you more leverage as you walk, climb stairs, or walk over uneven ground. I added rubber tape to enhance my grip on the pole. This is my second Brazos Walking-stick. My first Brazos walking stick was an Ironwood Walking-stick that was stolen from where I work. It was just as amazing as the Hawthorn Walking-stick that I am reviewing now. I have engraved my name and telephone number into this new Hawthorn Walking Stick to hopefully prevent it from being stolen as well. These walking-sticks are a necessity for me due to my poor balance. I would recommend one of these Brazos Walking-sticks to anyone who needs a little help with their walking or balance. If you do purchase one of these wonderful Walking-sticks, I recommend that you engrave your name on it. ... show more

My 55 inch stick arrived with the bottom at 40 degrees to the rest of the stick. It was also short. Otherwise it looked strong and quite nice looking. I tried to twist the rubber to a more favorable angle but because the bottom of the stick had such a sharp bend it would need trimmed about 4 inches then it would be much to short. I sent it back. And am awaiting my replacement. Its late. The rubber tip would have worn out prematurely on one edge. The person making this stick must have had something other than my walking stick on his mind in order for it to pass inspection. UPDATE: After a lost shipment the 2 new sticks showed up. One had a bend in the center which was still very useable. One was straight and very strong. I recommendthis walking stick just be prepared for the occasional crooked one which may or may not satisfy your individual needs. ... show more

I hiked in the Adirondack mountains for years and most always carried my "beaver stick" that I acquired from a beaver dam I had run across...it was perfect for hiking. Fast forward about 15 years, I have moved to Florida and had a small stroke that left me with imbalance which made it difficult walking.     • Nice sturdy stick

The length was perfect for me (I'm 6'). It's very durable. I've used it to cross roaring streams putting my body weight on the stick, and it held up fine. The reason I went with a full length stick, instead of those portable high tech walking sticks is I feel the length is beneficial when hiking on inclines in mountainous rocky territory. Also, I've lost sticks crossing rivers where I end up with just the handle, because the currents ripped the stick portion right out. And if you are assisting others with your stick, I've had collapsable sticks come apart, which isn't that great safety wise. Because this is a more natural wood, there was a slight bend halfway down my stick. So far, it doesn't seem to cause any issues with stability or structural integrity. Oddly, it's at the perfect distance on the stick, so that it balances at the bend. The other issues I had with the stick is that it did not come with a hiking point. I had to get a walking stick hardware kit to put at the end. Rockler sells one, and I used the medium sized. I had to sand the tip a bit to make the hardware kit to fit. But the stick is 100x better with one. The other issue I had is that the rubber tip that came with the stick is more of a furniture bottom. The stick is very thick at the bottom, about 1", might taper down to 3/4". But I found that the rubber tip that came with the stick was not suited for hiking on rocky surfaces. It would work fine if you were walking on even surfaces like a sidewalk or in the house. But the tip kept slipping on rocks when I put pressure at slight angles. And because of the thick nature of the stick, most hiking rubber tips will not fit. Which is why I bought the hardware kit so that I could get a hiking tip to fit on it. So for hikers, especially those that hike inclines, rocky terrain, or off terrain. I would strongly recommend you get a hardware kit to put on this stick. ... show more

    • NOT THE QUALITY THEY USED TO BE! TOO EXPENSIVE FOR WHAT WE GOT!

I bought on a few years ago and ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!! Bought one for a friend of mine who has recently gotten into hiking. To blunt IT IS GARBAGE!!! Half the diameter of the one I had, finish is so rough he actually got a splinter. The height was two inches shorter than it was supposed to be, not a deal breaker, I understand there are variations. But the finish HORRIBLE, he will have to re-sand and apply another finish. This company used to have a fabulous product, not any more.
