  • Works great so far…
Style: Silk-epil 9-720
Firstly, I’m partial to this brand. This is my third silk-epil in about 40 years (my first one was when there wasn’t many of these gadgets on market), so for me it’s a long-tracking brand. Only had it for a couple months, but used it a few times already. It replaced my much older corded dual power Braun epilator I had for at least 15 years! that died suddenly making awful rattling noises. I was wary of cordless cause recharging batteries eventually wear out. But there aren’t many corded valuable options out there: this was a good choice all considered. Here’s the pros (mostly pros so far tbh): -Fairly easy to hold and maneuver. -It works well on dry skin, I have not tried wet. I use it after showering so my skin is clean. Will epilate short and longer hair like my previous one, using two speeds. -Has a light, which for me it’s a huge plus, cause it means I can sit down more comfortably, and not need to have a flashlight shine to see any lighter color or thinner hair (also my sight isn’t getting any better after 50, so…), or going by “touch and feel” to make sure I am thorough. -Will do well on underarms too, no issues there, no pinching, smooth skin. So far no ingrown hair either. -Mine comes with couple of adapters. I wish I had gotten one with a smaller one, so I could do small areas like upper lip or brows as needed instead of waxing, but that’s okay (that’s what waxing of tweezers are for). -Has a shaving head I’ve not used yet, though I don’t think I’m going to either. -Cleans easy with its brush. I guess you can also wash it as it’s wet/dry use, not dove that yet. -Battery actually lasted quite a bit with first charge, and will beep lightly when you use it on low charge so you’ll know. Will also have yellow light to warn of charge needed. -Does not overheat with prolonged use, so you can do legs and underarms at the same time without requiring an in between “rest”. Maybe worked a good 30-40 minutes. I think the total work time (over several days) with full charge was at least 3-4 hours before needing to recharge it, so that’s s real plus! -Hair will take a lot longer to regrow when epilating, than shaving, and your skin will not be bumpy or stubby the next day. No change in skin color like when you wax either. Cons: -Just like any other epilator, it isn’t pleasant to epilate, but it’s definitely better than waxing and less messy, especially if you do it at home. -I don’t like the dial turn on, I’d have rather had a push up/down switch. Not sure why it’s a dial? It’s not super practical, but it does function fairly easy. -Not sure the curved head is an improvement, I don’t see much of a difference from the straight head of my old one, but it is easy enough to hold. -The bag it comes with is like a think plastic “satchel”. I kept my older one which is a rigid bag with zipper and mesh, so it’s more functional to take with if you travel, as well as have it set in a drawer and just pull out the shaver without having to pick up the whole thing to open. Overall though, not many cons to this; it’s pretty nice. My only regret is not buying the one that also had the smaller adapter, so I could do small areas like lip etc. the adapter with the rolls actually helps with sensitive areas, but it still has a wider path. I still prefer waxing for bikini area, but that’s because it’s “faster” (one and done) imho. My two cents…I’ve always preferred epilating to shaving, as all you pull is the hair not the skin, and no scraping like with a razor. Also no buying supplies all the time. I would recommend it, after only a month it two of using, but also based on faithful years with this brand. ... show more

  • LIFE CHANGING
Style: Silk-epil 9-720
I am a latina who is prone to razor bumps and has MAJOR sensory issues. I don’t like the feeling of stubble so i’ve had to shave almost everyday since I was a preteen. it took forever to find a shaving routine that would leave me with no bumps but it was too exhausting and time consuming. I switched over to an epilator and it’s the BEST decision I have made for my skin. the first month was hell but it did hurt a lot, it was taking me forever to get all the hair and I was doing it dry which gave me HORRIBLE razor bumps and strawberry legs even when i exfoliated. I now I have a routine where i take a warm shower, wash the areas thoroughly, exfoliate my skin w a loofah and body scrub around 10 minutes into the shower, then i go in with the epilator while my skin is wet. the pain is so much more tolerable when your skin has soaked in the shower. then i wash the area one more time just to make sure all my pores are clean, i apply liquid toner with a cotton ball and moisturize. the process is a whole event in itself at first but you get faster at it once you’ve gotten it down. i’m always left with soft and smooth legs, i feel like a walking goddess just waking up w no hair everyday. plus it’s only once a week that I have to clean it up so it beats shaving everyday!! the only down side is the battery, you have to constantly remember to charge it and do it fast bc you have about 45 minutes before it dies. cordless is definitely better though since you get to use it in the shower. ... show more

  • Well done Braun!
Style: Silk-epil 9-720
So, anyone who says it doesn’t hurt is not to be trusted with any secrets. That said, you do get used to it. I recommend some sort of topical analgesic to start out. That said, the bit of pain it well worth it to me. I have had hirsutism for many years due to PCOS and have tried shaving, creams, waxing, laser hair removal… all of it. I was very self conscious about it so it was a constant battle to hide it but the results were a lot of skin damage under my chin. Now, I use this for a few minutes every other week and I’m done. My hairs are so fine when they do grow back that I could probably go twice as long before the hairs are actually visible. My skin looks great. I seldom wear foundation but when I do, it looks so smooth! I had no idea it even could. I will never not have one of these in my life again. It’s well made but if it breaks, I’ll have another one on order within the hour. I’d give the Silk-epil 9 tenstars if I could. I’m still not brave enough to do my armpits though. 🥹 ... show more

  • Feels like a thousand hot rubber bands snapping your leg!
Style: Silk-epil 9-720
Ok, I’ll start by saying this thing absolutely works. But my god, it feels like a thousand hot rubber bands snapping on your leg all at once! The first time I used it I think I completed maybe a one square inch section on one leg because I couldn’t take the pain. Next attempt I knew what to expect, so I exfoliated, had a couple drinks, and cowboyed up and finished both legs, all while still yelling expletives every other second. I also was one of the lucky ones that had an immediate reaction with small, red sore bumps that lasted about a day. That being said, it sure did remove hair like a charm. I don’t have course leg hair but also don’t not have course leg hair, if that makes sense. Random hairs grew back in a couple days which means some had just snapped off rather than being pulled from the root. The second and third times using it to remove those hairs was MUCH easier and less painful, and only gets less painful each time. If you can get through that initial first session, it’s totally worth not having to deal with shaving. Giving it 4 stars since it works well, but the pain and number of random hairs that broke off rather than being pulled takes a star off for me. Good luck! ... show more

  • 72 TWEEZERS ARE AWESOME, BUT…
Style: Silk-epil 9-720
This item was intended as an “upgrade” to replace my hardwired basic 20-24? tweezer Braun epilator which died from overwork after 5 years. I am an experienced epilator user of about 20 something years. I am also a very hairy hispanic/north european female. Like, really really hairy. Like laser “removal” treatments made it grow back thicker and prescriptions to limit hair growth are about 5% effective. Seriously hairy. I epilate biweekly to keep from going insane from itchy hair in awkward places. CHARGING AND INSTRUCTIONS were pretty straight forward. SWITCH is depress and rotate to toggle which is sorta awkward for me, and may present problems if you have fine motor issues, arthritis etc in your hands. Annoying for me but so far not a deal breaker. ATTACHMENTS are a very mixed bag. “Body” attachment pretty much reduces the 72 tweezer effectiveness to about 5 tweezers’ worth. It may also add to the pain factor. I will probably throw it away. “Shaver” function is moot for me: my hair is too coarse to have any smoothness at all from this style shaver- truly hairy people will relate. “Trimmer” attachment clips on over the shaver and is a dream come true! I TRIM LONG HAIR FIRST for more effective, less painful epilation. I was having to use a totally different appliance to trim and having a self contained kit now is super helpful. “Face” attachment brings the tweezer effectiveness up to about 50 tweezers’ worth. I use it for everything head to toe. You will get 72 tweezers if you pop off the entire guard and use it with the whole roller exposed. I do not recommend this, but it is possible. LIGHT is the most disappointing feature of this epilator. The light on my hardwired Braun was much more powerful, and I hardly ever missed a hair. This light seems 30-50% dimmer at full charge and gets worse as the battery charge drains with use. The light is also set too far back from the tweezers and that space actually creates a shadow on my body in front of the tweezers. I miss quite a few hairs because of this. Also because of thoughtless light placement, I end up covering the light with my hand when working some angles, especially on my face. Essentially the light is mounted on the handle area rather than the working head of the epilator. This makes no sense and effectively deletes the light as a selling feature. I am old enough with aging eyeballs so this is really a necessary feature I was actually shopping for. BATTERY LIFE is actually pretty darn good right off the charger. I think I got at least 1hour 45 minutes of use the first time I used it. I then charged it up and left it ready in the drawer all week. It did great for 2-3 10-15 minute touch up sessions during the week. It did start to slow down by the end of the week and I got the red light more frequently on day 7. I do miss the consistent power of the hardwired model. WET USE is not a thing for me. My hair clings to my skin when wet and renders the epilator more frustrating than effective. CLEANING with the little brush is super easy. I also spray the cleaning brush and tweezers with rubbing alcohol while cleaning the epilator. This prevents bacteria spread and rashes. I had some pretty serious rashes before I started doing this. The whole unit gets an alcohol wipe after each use. STORAGE BAG is super flimsy and awkward to use. I just found a mini dopp kit bag to use which makes it easier to see and reach all the accessories without dumping everything out. I am still in my return window and trying to decide if this is really an upgrade. My ideal would be hardwired with 72 tweezers and a good light, but haven’t found that combo. ... show more

  • Finally - something relatively painless
Style: Silk-epil 9-720
I bought the first epilady when it came out in the mid-80s. It was nothing but coils that rotated rapidly. It was a torture device but it prepped me for the pain and suffering of other things that came later in life - waxing, sugaring, tattoos, passing a stone, cramps, and a hysterectomy. I bought a similar product about 3 or 4 years ago thinking that the technology has changed and it would be relatively painless. Nope - I used it a couple of times. The pain was so bad that I thought I traveled back in time to the 80s. When I came to, I was happy to see that I didn't have a perm or mall bangs. So, I thought I would give this a shot. Finally, a system that is relatively painless. I can actually see myself using this until the device gives out. No flashbacks. No need to do a shot (or several) to help me through it. Thanks, Braun - for making pulling hair seem like no bid deal. ... show more

  • Works well. First session will be painful.
Style: Silk-epil 9-720
I am a male user who hates body hair. This is my first epilator. I decided to try it after becoming impatient with IPL hair removal, which seems to be effective for my legs but had very limited effect for thicker hair like armpits & facial hair. Overall the pain level for my first session was tolerable - for less sensitive areas like lower legs, it feels like a bunch of very fine needle pricks (and surprisingly, armpit hair removal was not painful at all - I was expecting that area to be more sensitive). Sensitive areas like inner thighs, bikini lines, pubic area are unfortunately very unpleasant to do, and will require frequent breaks for the pain to be manageable. One thing I find works well for these areas is to go with the direction of hair growth (instead of against, as recommended in the manual). The epilator will pick up far less hair this way, so it will gradually thin the areas and reduce pain level. I only go against the hair growing direction toward the end of the session. Facial hair was BY FAR the worst - if you are male and wish to epilate facial hair, be mentally prepared, it's not for the faint of heart. Even my trick about going with the grain of hair growth only helps marginally, as facial hair is very thick so the epilator will grab a whole bunch and pluck them all out regardless of which direction you go in. It literally feels like your facial skin is being ripped off - I think the pain level is on par with when I broke my foot. -_- Thankfully subsequent sessions won't be nearly as bad, as long as you keep up maintenance and pluck new hairs while they are still thin. ... show more

  • A+ Hair Removal
Style: Silk-epil 9-720
Effective? Extremely. Painful? Yes. Worth it? Totally. I started having my legs and bikini line professionally sugared about a year ago, costing me about $100/mo. Six months ago, I started sugaring my own legs to save money. I love that the hair grows back much finer, but regrowth starts within a few days!! Enter: Epilation, my new favorite thing. I do a quick pass of my legs and bikini line every few days to clean up the regrowth and pick up any hairs that broke during previous sugaring/epilating sessions. Doing it this way, I no longer have to have ANY sugaring sessions, either professionally or DIY! Epilating regularly after a sugaring session is also much less painful than a first session of epilation in which all hairs are being pulled out at the same time. (I've epilated some unsugared areas, like my forearms, and it is nearly unbearable.) ... show more
