Epilators have always sat uncomfortably alongside shaving, waxing and (more recently) IPL as methods to remove body hair. I use the word uncomfortably both figuratively and literally, as a bad epilator can be a bit tortuous. An epilator is basically a rotating set of multiple tweezers that pulls hair out below the skin line. When it works, it's great, because you get a lot more hair out than by shaving, and an epilator can pull out even very short hairs that waxing leaves behind. Net result: When you're done, the hair removed region will remain smooth a lot longer than shaving or waxing. But the downside is that epilation is painful, since, well, it's pulling out a bunch of hair. You want a good quality epilator with precision heads and good power. Cheap epilators (you can find them on Amazon) tend to fail in both respects. This is one device where you get what you pay for, and Braun is close to the apex in quality. Braun offers a few models of Epilators. The best are the Epil-9 models, mostly differentiated by a pivoting head which makes getting to hard-to-deal with areas (like underarms) easier. The cheapest are the Epil-5 models, which have more narrow heads and are thus a lot slower at getting the job done (I don't like the Epil-5 much). This is the Epil-7. It has the wider head like the Epil-9, but it doesn't have the pivoting head. You can still get everything done with this one, but you may have a bit more trouble following uneven skinlines. The Epil-7 also has a smaller battery than the Epil-9. Like the Epil-9, this also has a built in light to help you see what you're doing. And it's also wet/dry, like the Epil-9. You should know is that epilation is not a particularly quick process. I mean, you can try to do it quickly, but then you will invariably need to go back and do the same area again (and again) to get all the hairs you missed. Slow and steady wins this race. This epilator is rated for about 40 minutes on a full charge--and if you're doing a significant job, you'll probably come close to using that up. For more frequent trims, 40 minutes may get you a couple of runs done. You can run this one either dry or wet. Generally, in terms of performance, dry is more efficient, but on sensitive body parts, wet/conditioned may be preferable. The epilator, as noted, works really well. The shaver head isn't that hot, and while it's OK to clean up stuff you missed with the epilator (if you epilated carefully), it's inferior to any dedicated shaver you might have. Overall, this epilator provies a strong motor, a good precise head, and plenty of power on a charge. It misses out on a pivoting head and a larger battery (better run time) from the big brother Epil-9, but it's significantly cheaper and still effective. Whatever you choose (Epil-7 or Epil-9), Bruan is a great choice for epilators and you do get what you pay for in this area. Hoowee, this method is NOT for the faint of heart. Painful, as is any other method that involves pulling or plucking the hair! Certainly a lot less hassle than waxing though, and their claim that this can get hairs that wax can’t is TRUE. I tried this on my armpits with about 1.5-2mm hair growth, certainly nowhere near long enough to wax, but this got every single one. Except for the loose, deflated bit of breast skin that my armpit hair grows on, there was no “tugging,” all the hair came out clean on the first pass. That breast/armpit skin is so loose from breastfeeding my five babies, that it allowed this to tug and pinch a tiny bit, but pulling the skin tight fixed the problem. So it was an issue on my end, not an issue with the epilator. Even with that bit of a hiccup, my armpits are completely smooth, it got every last hair! I HIGHLY recommend using a lidocaine spray or cream to reduce the pain because this is prolonged pain, rather than the intermittent, quick rip with a wax strip. Gonna take some getting used to, for sure, but if you want to look into waxing, I’d say this is superior with just this device needed instead of a wax warmer, wax, waxing sticks, sometimes wax strips, pre wax spray, post wax soothing spray, all the stuff needed for waxing, AND the fact that you need very little growth for this to work. I can see where off brand epilators would likely fall short and cause a lot of tugging because this is made so precisely, looking at the intricacy of the mechanism, so I’d say this model is likely the gold standard for epilators.

Having used many different epilators in the past, there is one thing that I've learned, and that is to buy a quality model. With Braun you always get that, and the Silk-epil 7 kit is no different. It definitely has that quality feel. Made in Germany. I'd say that this is their mid-tier epilator. It has fixed head which I like and you're able to direct it where it needs to go. Although this model does seem efficient with hair removal it is still uncomfortable, but you are plucking hairs out but their roots at an insane speed. So what can you expect. I've never drained the battery completely and always charge after use so for me the battery it great. The shaver head works fairly well if you apply a lot of pressure, works as well as you can expect from an electric shaver. Overall, great epilator from a great company. Highly recommend.

This epilator comes with a shaver attachment, a nice pouch and a few other pieces. I must admit, the packaging was very odd with this. Maybe mine was different, but it was all upside down. Regardless, this is a Braun, so you know the quality is as good as it gets. Truly top tier. Both the epilator and the shaver work perfectly. You really get your monies worth with this. I have owned many Braun products, and I have yet to come across one that was poorly made. I am only one person, who I has owned between 10-20 of their products over the years, I have not regretted any of them. Be warned though, epilators can be painful, that is normal. You’re essentially ripping the hairs out. You get used to it. My only complaint, is that I wish Braun would start to use USB-c charging cords. That would make it a little more convenient. It is not a game changer, this product still rocks
