Beyond Library Max is a very large kit of over 1000 pieces. This was my 2nd kit and I did much better with this one. I worked on it in small sections at a time. If I found myself feeling frustrated, I set it aside for the day. I’d read one reviewer saying he ran out of books so I got creative with book placement to be on the safe side. I took some of my favorite covers and set the books up facing outward with a small piece of scrap glued to their back and also to the shelf. covering all of the books for the different shelf locations actually added to the fun of doing this kit. the more details, the more I seem to love it! Books with pages was something new to me and I did figure that out. I really like all of the railings, ladders and stairs. I like that they broke it down into 4 main parts for construction. I feel so satisfied looking inside my finished nook. There is so much detail in it. Some of the pieces are so far back that I didn't think I'd actually see them once I was finished, but the lighting really allows you to see into the back of the nook. The T-Rex was really cool to put together and looks very authentic. This kit is amazing and so well designed. The instruction manual is very well done. They also had repeat reminders to remove the protective film from the plastic pieces. I didn’t have any issues with the lighting. This kit was so enjoyable! I took a picture of it both with and without the lights on because I knew my phone flash would cause some glare.

Caveat: I have not assembled this yet, but I’ve done a *lot* of these over the years, and I’ve encountered every imaginable screw-up (both mine and the manufacturer’s), and this kit has all my dream characteristics. But first, if you are looking for a gift for a child, this is NOT it! *None* of these are, of any brand, even though they all show young children in every listing. These are not toys, but models. The pleasure is in the building, not playing. And even in the customizing, with your own additions you create from beads, dried greenery, extra LEDs, wire, decals, etc. So a smart, patient teenager who likes models would enjoy this, but not a true child. (Also, the estimated times are always too low.) 1. The wood is the very dense, smooth particle board, very heavy, NOT the splintery kind that breaks if you look at it cross-eyed. Like any similar product that is packaged in shrinkwrap, it has a slight smell when opened, but I found it neither overpowering nor long-lasting. 2. The book covers are peel-off and plasticized! Anyone who has done more than one of these knows the misery of cutting out hundreds of tiny book covers. And they are self-adhesive! No struggling to get just the right amount of adhesive, enough to make them stick, but not so much that it squeezes out onto your gloves and makes all the tiny bits stick to your hands. 3. Glue and tools are included. And the glue is not some afterthought, but the one that is always my go-to, with a precision, pinpoint tip. And the tiny rubber mallet is something I didn’t have. 4. Additional items, such as the clear plastic globe with the etched continents, are first quality. 5. The manual may not be perfect, but it is larger than most, and printed on heavy paper, with English. I could actually go on, but I have chores to get done. I was just really excited to examine this kit and realize that it had everything I had wished for while assembling other kits.

New Update! The company sent me a new kit. I just finished it. It was great to put together! Everything fit exactly as it should. I started it last night and completed it tonight! Absolutely no frustration at all. It is wonderful! It was obviously just a bad kit the first time around. Highly recommend reaching out if your kit is not going together properly. They made mine right. I am glad I accepted the offer of the new kit. It is absolutely stunning! I changed this to a 4 because the company did reach out to me. They offered to replace the wonky pieces. However, I am stubborn and I was able to complete it with an extra set of hands. I do like the finished product. The Phantom definitely gave me some challenges. This one is not easy. Possibly it is just the particular kit I got but the big pieces did not fit easily. Only had one piece break as I tried to fasten the guy in and bumped the thin piece. One floor was warped making it hard to line up everything. Then I got excited because things seemed to be coming together. It was premature excitement. The outside walls do not click in and stay in place. They fell as soon as I removed my hand. This is when I noticed they are a bit warped also. Got that worked around. Got the lights just right. Now time to place the back and the top. Top goes on but no matter how I try the back will not totally snap in. It is warped apparently. I can either have the bottom snapped in, or one of the sides snapped in. Can't have it all snapped together. Currently the back is having to wait until I have help holding it because I am going to need to glue it on if I have any hopes of it being on. This has definitely been a very frustrating build. Thankfully no small children are in our house because I have used words not fit for little ears. I think it will be neat if I ever get it totally together. The instructions were ok. Mostly good but a few times not so much. I do not recommend this one to someone new to building. Hopefully my kit was just a one off type thing. I want to like it but right now I am ready to toss it. (I won't cause it is actually supposed to be a gift)

This was a very satisfying build. Product quality was great and the directions are well written. Best of all is the finished product. I've had more compliments on this build then any others I've done (over 30 book nooks completed). It has some great special effects and the lighting is perfect. Highly recommended.
