  • Patience Required
Color: Library of Book Nook
Overall, the nook went together well. It's a shame there is a lot of detail that can't be seen after the project was completed. The glue I used was Scotch, no run, tacky glue brought from Hobby Lobby. Some lessons learned: Read all the directions carefully first. Use an X-acto knife to gingerly separate the wooden pieces or they may split. I used a brown colored pencil for touch-ups after polishing with the included abrasive tool. Page "3", while assembling the book piles, the book pile 4 states using only 12 books even though you have 14. 14 would not fit in the shelf later in the manual. I would wait 'til you get to the installation step (page 12, step 33) to ensure all the books will fit. Page 4, I rolled the newspapers tightly around the included screwdriver to get them small enough to fit in the drum. The two K39 parts should be symmetrically opposite but it still worked out ok. Page 6, part G11 (arch lamp) doesn't have a slot in E1 to properly install so I cut one. Page 12 mentions a music box option that was not included (purchased separately). When installing the floor I1 (Page 13, step 10, be sure to route the wires for the LED lights through the corner notch. Page 14, step 18, glue part I4 (wall lamp) as close to the picture as possible. It will need clearance for the shelf assembly installed on page 16, step 36. When gluing the table and chair (page 15, step 21) you will need clearance for the right arch assembly installed on page 16, step 32. Have fun and good luck. ... show more

  • Not perfect, but still pretty cool
Color: Library of Book Nook
Don’t underestimate how long this will take to put together. It’s very tedious, which I’m not saying as a bad thing. Just know you’re not getting this done on a Saturday afternoon. I worked on mine 1-2 hours at a time over three months. Not all of the big pieces are going to fit together perfectly. You’ll have to use a knife or sandpaper to get some things to fit correctly. It’s not perfect but the end result is pretty cool. NOTE: This does not come with glue or sandpaper. You will get a tiny 1” long nail file type of “sandpaper” and that’s it. I used Elmers wood glue, and it held things great. ... show more

  • Fun but there are issues.
Color: Library of Book Nook
Overall, this was fun and I would do it again. But there were definitely issues. First of all, glue was not included, get some clear wood glue. You will also need tweezers, Q-tips, and sandpaper. I had to sandpaper a few of the pieces to get them to fit. That wasn’t too bad, but at the very very end, I could not get all three sides to fit together. In a sense that was my fault, but in another sense it was the manufacturers fault, because that should not happen. I had to call a friend who is a professional, carpenter to Fashion an extra piece to finish it. What I did, which made it really special is that I personalized it. I made it as a gift to give to friends of mine who owned a bookstore. So instead of using the fake pictures and things that came with the kit, I printed out pictures of their bookstore and similar things And miniaturized all the pictures and used them instead. It really made it special. I totally agree with another reviewer who complained about the tedium of making the little box. There was no good reason for making all those little books. And, for example, you have to glue paper around the pot of a potted palm. Who cares about that? The wood should have come pre-finished and ready to go. It seems like a minor point, but it was annoying. ... show more

  • Awesome weekend project! Lots and lots of patience!!!!
Color: Library of Book Nook
The media could not be loaded. I absolutely LOVED doing this little project. Took me two days (about 6-7 hours each). I’m very detailed, so I was very careful gluing my pieces together. A bit of a perfectionist too because I wanted it to look exactly like the one in the box :) Overall, I give this 4.7 out of 5. Why? It does not include glue. Some pieces are very hard to take out (just a few). The tape to hold the wires does not stick as much, so I ended up gluing the wires too. There’s a small hole in the back where a ‘music movement piece’ was supposed to be install but it says ‘purchase separately’ (page 12- step 2). That would’ve been awesome to add. I look forward to making a few of these more. I think this is a great activity to do with teens. Teaches them patience, attention to details, self control, and much more. And let’s face it, looks so cute next to books. ^_^. ... show more

  • Electronics do not work
Color: Library of Book Nook
I ordered this 1 month ago and when I got around to completing this kit I found a big gash in the circuit board. The body sensor switch does not work and I have no way to contact the seller for a replacement. So if you buy this open this up right away to make sure the electronics work. If not return it right away. UPDATE: The seller contacted us for a refund after this review. We attempted to get a replacement through Amazob Customer Service, but they were unable to provide a replacement. In this case, the seller was more responsive than Amazon CS ... show more

  • I had no idea what I was getting into
Color: Library of Book Nook
The end product is great, but because the directions said glue was included (and didn’t), and I had to go through three different types of craft glue to figure out what would work, this is definitely four stars. Also, for those new to these, the first few directions are tough to get invested in: you’re cutting paper, gluing your fingers together to try and wrap it around a small wooden block to resemble a miniature book— it took me a few days to get past the very painful tedium (would be better if there was a sticker sheet for the parts that adhere to wood or another piece, and paper for the 3D paper elements that built onto each other). All said, it feels really good when you finish it and see the final product! ... show more

I had fun putting this together. Some of the pieces were stuck and broke a little when I was trying to get them out but overall was a fun project.
