  • So excited to begin my Bonsai journey!
This book is terrific. I love gardening and fell in love with Bonsai trees when I watched "The Karate Kid." Many years later, I got my first Bonsai tree from a local store, a small juniper, and it died within the first two months. I was crushed. After reading this book, knowing that Bonsai is a challenging undertaking is comforting. I would never have purchased my little tree had I known all that goes into growing one successfully. The author has a lot of information in this book, but it is organized and presented in a fashion that is truly for beginners. The book has an extensive reference list, which lends substantial credibility to the presented material. She does not assume that the reader already knows the techniques, tools, or materials needed to grow a little tree successfully. The book is filled with illustrations to reinforce the written material. I wish I had this book years ago when I tried to tend to my little Bonsai. I now know I needed proper drainage, lighting, and soil. After reading this book, I'm confident I can keep a future Bonsai juniper tree happy and healthy! ... show more

  • Awesome beginner's guide!
I've followed a lot of FB beginner's bonsai groups, but I have been wanting a good beginner's guide to read at my own leisure... This is it! I was pleasantly surprised at the detail, yet, easy to follow format. The author delved deep into descriptions, and how-tos that a bonsai enthusiast of any level could follow. I learned so much about the history and why-fors behind this hobby. If you are on the fence, grab this book now! ... show more

  • My Journey with 'Bonsai for Beginners!
I stumbled upon this book and thought, 'Why not give it a shot?' I mean, I've always admired those beautiful miniature trees, but I figured they were way too fancy for a gardening newbie like me. Well, this book proved me wrong in the best way possible! From the get-go, it felt like the author was chatting with me over a cup of coffee. They debunked the idea that Bonsai is just for experts and clarified that anyone curious can dive right in. The history behind Bonsai was intriguing like I was unearthing this ancient art's secrets. The author walked me through everything – and I mean everything – I needed to know. Different Bonsai styles? Check. Was I picking the suitable soil? Got it. And can we talk about the section on finding the perfect pot? Budget-friendly options? Yes, please! They even dropped some nuggets about famous Bonsai trees, and suddenly, I felt like I was part of this cool, creative club. What impressed me was how they balanced practical advice with the soul of the art. It wasn't just about techniques; it was about crafting a living masterpiece. The shaping, wiring, and pruning tips were like getting DIY secrets from a Bonsai sensei. But they didn't stop there. This book was like a one-stop shop. Pests, diseases, dying Bonsai – they had answers for all my 'what if' scenarios. It’s like they knew I'd want to show off my newfound skills. It's like a mentor, a guide, and a friend who's got my back in my quest to turn little trees into living art. ... show more
