I prefer my hot teas in glass, and double-walled glass is the way to go. Unlike various other double-walled glass mugs this is from Bodum. I've owned a few over the decades and so far all the previous ones pale in quality to this one. Bodum is more expensive but it's worth it. It uses a proper boroscilicate glass - like laboratory glassware. It is thin but not delicate (well, don't drop it - it's not plastic). The handle is both thick with a large opening. Unlike lesser competitors the crucial ventilation plug on the bottom is not simply sealed shut, or sealed with hot glue. Bodum uses a hydrophobic silicon-plastic plug. This allows the air in between the double walls to vary in pressure which is essential when pouring boiling water in the mug (hot air expands is 4th grade science) or condenses when ice and a cold beverage are poured into the mug. Without ventilation pressure can build or reduce and weaken the glass. I had one cheap double-walled mug shatter while pouring boiling water for tea. The plug being hydrophobic minimizes any water entering the space between the walls, although some moisture does inevitably enter the void, it is not enough to condense to fluid. Accumulated fluid inside the gap will become a host for bacteria and other pathogens. My advice is to spend the extra money on the Bodum mug, and always handwash it. If you must use the dishwater I do recommend that you place it "cup up" or on its side. The drying cycle will force any moisture out the plug as long as it's on the bottom, and it shouldn't introduce more moisture if it's on its side. Hot drinks stay hot longer, clean easily, and are pretty durable. We had 2 of these for a couple years and like them so much we bought another 6. We hand wash about 50% of the time but haven't had any moisture get between the layers to fog them up.

I wanted to get something that didn’t get stained like porcelain mugs. I thought these would work. They don’t stain but when I put them in the dishwasher without using a scrubber on the inside first they come out looking foggy. Love that hot stays hot, cold stay’s cold longer. I’m using one right now for a hot tea. No hot fingers holding the cup. They wash up easily and dry quickly. Anyone would be thrilled to have them and what a great gift… to get or give. I do hand wash them.

I originally had purchased some cheap latte stoneware cups at Target thinking that a cup is just a cup and it didn't really matter much. Boy... was I wrong! After spending significant time making cafe lattes in the morning, I kept noticing that my lattes would get cold very quickly. It was incredibly frustrating. I soon realized my cheap Target cups were just radiating heat. You could feel all the heat loss on the outside of the cup. So, I did some research online and saw that these Bodum cups were highly rated by many users. And although they were significantly more expensive than my cheap cups, I gave them a try. All I can say is... Wow! These are a total game changer! Night and day. My lattes stay hot for an incredibly long time. Even when I'm close to finishing the drink, with very little coffee at the bottom of the cup, it's still hot. And the telltale sign is that you don't feel heat radiation on the outside of these cups. The double wall keeps the liquid hot for a very long time. The manufacturing quality of these cups is very good. They are made from borosilicate glass which is much more durable glass. It is the same glass used in medical grade flasks and beakers. Apparently even Pyrex used to make their measuring cups out of this more durable glass until they decided to cut costs and go with a cheaper glass (borosilicate glass is more expensive). But, these cups are definitely worth the extra cost!... In this case you get what you pay for. However, as with any glass cup, I'm sure they can break if you get too rough with them or put them in the dishwasher next to/touching other glasses. For that reason I always hand wash mine. Also, Bodum recommends that you don't use metal spoons with them (prevents them from cracking/breaking). So, I picked up a box of plastic spoons at Costco to use with them. You can also find small wooden spoons on Amazon that I'm sure would work well too. Again, these are after all made of glass (even if it is a much stronger glass) and glass can break. But as long as you don't get too rough with them and don't stack them on other dishes in the dishwasher, they should last a very long time. Excellent cups!! ... show more

i ordered for the mid size of 10oz. I prefer this size when serving from coffee pot. the shape and size of handle is not very ergonomic. it is such a rounded shape as opposed to elongated the cup will tilt.
