My 3.5 year old loves the show and also loves this play set. There was no bad smell upon opening. The plastic is hard, brightly pigmented (not painted) and relatively heavy for the size, so you know it’s good quality. I couldn’t quite tell from the photos, but the house is not a plastic toy. It is a cardboard cutout that you can remove from the package and let your child play with, if they don’t put stuff in their mouth anymore. The set does not include the Handy Dandy Notebook, which is a little disappointing. But I suppose it would be way too small. The guitar has a half ring on the back so it can clip onto Josh’s waist. Just be gentle and use scissors when removing it from the package so you don’t break the ring like I almost did. The babies Ginger and Sage are surprisingly small, so I would not give them to a 2 or 1 year old (the package says age 3+ anyway). They should’ve been made joined together to make one larger piece. Oddly enough their parents, Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper, which would be bigger pieces by themselves are joined together to make one large piece. I don’t understand that logic. (I suspect it might be because they have stick arms that could easily break off if they were 2 separate figurines). The Mailbox door opens and there is a non-removable envelope sticking up on the backside of the door, much to my daughter’s delight. The red flag is fused to the mailbox and does not swivel. It’s quite sturdy but I could see it potentially breaking off with a lot of seriously bad abuse. The Sidetable does not have a drawer that opens. The dogs Blue and Magenta are posable with ears, heads and legs that swivel easily. They do stay standing up once you get all four feet perfectly flat. Josh is also posable. His legs are fused together but hinge at the waist so he can stand and sit easily. His arms and head also swivel around. His smiling face is cute. His skin tone is correct but his eyes are decidedly Caucasian instead of Asian, which I found disappointing. Overall this is a high quality play set that I would recommend to a friend. It is made in China. I hope in the future they make a complimentary set that includes Shovel and Pail, Sock Puppet, the Handy Dandy Notebook, some Paw Prints and other characters from the show. ... show more
