Description

Blunt's newest odyssey, Black Metal, rides this tension between critical detachment and mainlined human feeling, and in fact he climbs ever-steeper theoretical heights just as his emotionally stark songs become, at times, startlingly intimate.

  • Rather minimal pop...
Loving Dean Blunt at the moment. From the opener `Lush' which sounds like MBV if you ask me, to the the ambient dirge of `Forever' this record just sounds great! It will not appeal to everybody but if you're patient and appreciate the sonic sound in this package you'll surely have a trippy time (I surely did). Lyrics are quite cryptic and somewhat weird, but still got to me. Artpop at its finest (don't be fooled, you'll catch everything here, from folkish tunes, to Americana... To downright droning electronic tracks, dub (yes, dub) and even noisy pop on `Country'. Wow just loved this record! And I rarely write reviews for music albums.. If you're into avant pop, indie music or just `weird' give this one a try. ... show more

  • UK's version of Beck, except he's black. Great listen and never gets old.
If you know Blunt's background you can understand the genius in this LP. Sort of reminds of Beck doing Sea Change, but with more depth. Great album to use as a reference album to make sure your turntable is set-up due to all the intricate instruments and samples. The concept of "black" goes with it all. This one will shoot up in price once it's out of print. ... show more

  • Headline for your review
One of my favorites from 2014, great album and good quality vinyl. The packaging it comes with made me laugh though, an all black casing with an all black sleeve containing two more all black sleeves which have unmarked all black LPs. Album is a 9.8/10 in my book, give it a listen. ps it's not actually a metal album ;) ... show more

Album of the year, you either love it or it leaves you completely cold it seems. I'm in the former camp

  • Unique
This is some really good stuff. Album of the decade, tbh. I am glad it's available on Amazon, at an affordable price. Get it now, before it disappears forever and the price goes up x8. It's unconventional and a little out there, but that's what makes it so great.

  • Dean Blunt returns with his best album yet.
Absolutely incredible album from start to finish. One of my favorites of 2014. If you're a fan of lo-fi and quirkly pop (ariel pink, etc.) you will definitely love this. Except this is definitely a little darker and more introspective. From the opener "Lush", you will be hooked!
