Description

Indoor cycling workout video filmed from the rider’s perspective. Aloha cyclists and spinners to the black lava shores and humid jungles of this amazing Pacific island that is home to the Ironman Triathlon. Behold huge banyan trees and brilliant bougainvillea and hibiscus while riding through the famous coffee-producing area of Kona. Skim the lush southern coast under swaying coconut palms. See smoking Kilauea and beautiful, misty fern- tree forests as you work out through Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Scenic routes take us by waterfalls near Hilo and the grassy highlands of Waimea nicely round out this tropical adventure. Review I have never been a fan of bike racing videos in my Indoor Cycling classes. Too distracting. It's very much like watching a NASCAR race, you feel compelled to watch, waiting for the inevitable crash or some other drama. The creative team of Liz & Jan Hunter, the co-creators of the Bike-O-Vision DVD series, sent me a copy of their latest video to try out in my Spinning class. I liked it and so did the participants. My wife Amy (the senior group fitness instructor in my family) also liked them. Instead of creating a distraction, the pretty scenery you would see while riding these roads on your bike, added a nice atmosphere to the room. --John MacGowan, owner of (ICI/PRO) IndoorCyclingInstructor.com & cyclingstudio.org I cannot believe how much I love spinning. Actually…I hated every second when I first started...it took me about 6 long weeks going 3 days a week to get where I could do the entire class without feeling like throwing up or simply passing out! Now I just dance away at it and it almost feels like it's easy-ish. Of course, some days are harder than others but the scenery sure does help. The videos have also shown me some places where I know I'll never go but I feel like I know it as well as if I had traveled there! Pretty darn cool! We have all your videos in the standard format and they work perfectly on our screen. You can see our spin room if you go to our website. We love your videos.... --Peggie Muir, General Manager, CITY CLUB Fort Worth TEXAS When I looked at the list of top selling bike movies on amazon.com, I was very surprised to see that eight of the top 25 were from Bike-O-Vision, a company I had never heard of. It turns out that their DVDs aim to give you the feeling of riding outside as you pedal a trainer or exercise bike. I'll tell you straight up that I find riding a trainer or exercise bike to be dreadfully boring, and it seemed to me that the only thing worse would be having to watch videos showing outdoor scenery at the same time. The whole thing seemed hokey from the start, but hey, they're killing it on Amazon, so I figured I'd check it out. So I popped in the DVD and started watching. Generally how the Bike-O- Vision DVDs work is that the producers take a section of landscape and just let the camera roll as you 'ride' from one point to another, with segments roughly broken up into chunks of 8-12 minutes split by landmarks along the way that break up the ride. The DVDs -- mostly filmed in the U.S., but some elsewhere -- give the impression of you 'traveling' along a road through these places. Maybe you're pedaling along through California wine country, maybe riding on the Big Island of Hawaii or the mountains of Europe. You see the road stretching out in front of you as it rolls smoothly under your wheels. Occasionally, you'll glance to the side and check out the scenery passing next to you. And with the landmarks that help divide the footage, when you reach them, it's almost like you park your bike and go walking around and through them as the camera tours you through the most significant spots along the way. You're still pedaling at home, of course, but it feels like you've taken a break. Despite my initial skepticism, these videos certainly make the time on the exercise bike more tolerable, in fact, almost enjoyable. They certainly improve the experience at least 100%. I have a buddy who rides the trainer every day during the winter, 30 minutes at a time like he's serving a prison sentence. I gave him two of these DVDs to check out. He told me that he found himself doing 45 minutes or more with the Bike-O-Vision DVDs, simply because they made the time interesting and pass by that much more quickly. Specific Observations about the Bike-O-Vision DVDs Several things I noticed in reviewing the Bike-O-Vision DVDS. First, the sensation of riding caused by watching the video is much more realistic than I expected. For instance, incorporating the various landmarks, noted natural formations, dominant historical features, etc., in the film is a nice touch. I found that as I pedaled, I was constantly looking off into the distance of the film, watching the approaching landmarks, which gave a sense of expectation, movement, and ultimately accomplishment of travel. Secondly, 'riding' on actual roads with real traffic was effective too at holding my attention and giving the sensation of actually riding. I would become alert when vehicles approached from a side street. I found myself also looking slightly ahead at the road on the screen, watching for gravel, glass, pot holes, etc., just like you'd do in riding a real bike. It's realistic enough that a reader contacted the company last year after watching the Puerto Rico journey. He had so gotten into the video, he said, riding down jungle roads, that at one point in the film when a dog appears and barks from the roadside, he immediately swerved and almost fell off his bike. Third, the varying terrain was effective in changing the pace on the trainer. Many of the DVDs feature big hills and I found myself coming out of the saddle to pedal harder, just as if I was climbing a real hill. And the presence of road signs and other landmarks was effective too, in offering intermediate milestones to motivate effort. For instance, seeing a sign in the distance and sprinting until reaching it. --More by David Fiedler, at: bicycling.about.com

  • Bad Product!
Do not buy this DVD, IT IS WORTHLESS! My mistake was not trying it right after delivery! I'm disable and ordered it to view when riding my stationary bike for Physical Therapy. The problem is I fell and did not get to use it until today (January 5, 2020), after recovery. Too bad because Amazon can not do anything because the merchant has only a 30 days return limit, but that was not told to me! • Great Video Quality
I have a few different videos of this style that I watch when I train on my bike inside. These are by far superior -- no erratic, bumpy camera movements & the music doesn't annoy me, I can easily mute & use my choice of music if I feel the need to. I would definitely recommend any of the Bike-O-Vision videos. They have a lot of location videos to choose from so you won't get bored. ... show more

  • Outstanding! A Beautiful DVD That Allows You To Enjoy The Big Island.
I have almost all of the Bike-O-Vision Cycling DVDs. I haven't been to Hawaii's Big Island in person, but after cycling it, I feel like I've been there. I found myself checking to see if there were any little local restaurants to stop in and get some lunch, just as I would have if I had been there on vacation. At one point I found myself looking for a place I might want to live. How far do I want to be from town? I have visited Kauai, which I believe may be the least commercialized of all the Hawaiian Islands and I can't wait for the Kauai DVD to come out. It doesn't really matter what comes out next. I'll probably buy it and enjoy it. These are great ways to stay fit! The time just zips by and my exercise is done for the day. Often I keep going. It's just that much fun. I look forward to my "vacation" time every day. ... show more

  • My 2nd favorite
Again, I like rides that give me something to look at, other than the road. Otherwise, I can use my cycle-ops trainer and stare at the beige walls. Anyhow, this one is fun cuz you see the lushness of Hawaii but also the little towns and the volcano areas, complete with steam vents. Not gonna ride past that where I live! The rides are at a nice pace, but not for hardcore aerobic workouts. So if you are looking for the cycle-til-you-drop, sweat-like-a-pig ride this series will not do for you. But for exercise for the Average Jane, this is great. ... show more

  • Great for the winter blues
Bike O Vision seems more at the speed of a real bike ride where others seem to be more walking.

  • This is Hawaii!
This video is exactly like being on the big island of Hawaii!!! Some have commented that it is cloudy and rainy at points, and that there are not a lot of beach scenes. These observations can all be explained. It is sometimes cloudy because there is always "vog" (volcanic fog) over part of the island due to the active volcano. Also, the volcano is located in a rain forest. It is nearly always misting on that part of the island. Also, the Hilo side of the island gets rain nearly every day. The Kona side only seems to get rain at night. And lastly, there are very few white sand beaches on this island. The island is made up of volcanic rock and it is everywhere....from far inland to the ocean. Biking with this video is like being back to the island. Beautiful! I will say that the music on these DVDs is just awful. Pandora radio tuned to the Hawaiian Radio station sets just the right mood! ... show more

  • Taking a Bike Ride in Hawaii
Due to a knee injury, I am unable to go out walking like I used to. An exercise bike was given to me but I hated watching television shows or listening to just music when I used the bike. I ran across the Bike-O-Vision Cycling DVDs and I was hooked. I set my bike up close to the television and started the dvd. This is a bike ride seen from the rider's view. You go biking around the Big Island of Hawaii and I am completely lost in the ride. You find yourself gazing back and forth at the sights, watching out for cars...LOL, and just take a bike ride. I encourage people to use these tapes when using your stationary bikes. It is great! ... show more
