  • Tough Tape with Excellent Grip
Color: Black
UPDATE after a change and a second ride: I unwrapped and re-wrapped the upper sections, so there was less tension on the tape, and now it's thicker - almost as thick as the Bontrager tape. Today's ride was much nicer. So... lesson learned: Don't wrap it too tight! Stretch: The tape stretches adequately, and did not break on me when pulling hard as a test. It feels very tough. Wrapping: Some riders have a wrapping technique around the shifters, where the tape direction is reversed for the upper portion of the handlebars. With the vent holes along just one edge of this tape, you have to make sure it continues to wrap so those holes remain visible (don't get covered up by each additional wrap). This raises a question… Why not just add vent holes all the way across the tape? Then we could wrap it however we like. Grip: Excellent. It almost feels sticky when riding with gloves on, which is a very nice, secure feeling. Cushion: Less than expected. On my first ride, I felt like my handlebars were thinner, compared to when they were wrapped with my old tape (by Bontrager, which is Trek). I came home and compared this tape to Bontrager, and they are surprisingly the same thickness. I pinched both, and this tape seems to be less dense (it is slightly easier to compress). I cut a cross section of both, and realized this tape has much less thickness at its edges (see photos, where I put the blue Bontrager tape on top of this black and white tape). Bontrager’s is much thicker out at the edges, which is what’s making this tape feel thinner. Finishing Tape: The included finishing tape is almost too stretchy if you only hold it by the end when wrapping. You can easily draw it too tight and make the end farthest from your handlebars stretch out very narrow. Just be sure to put most of the stretching effort down close to the handlebars, and don't stretch it too much, and it should go on just fine. Plugs: I like the expandable plugs they include in the box. Sometimes traditional plugs are hard to insert, but these go in no matter how much extra tape is in there. Just tighten the screw and it expands to fill the space. Very nice. Will I use it again? For me, personally, I would rather have the extra thickness Bontrager has out at its edges, but this tape is nice in every other way. The excellent grip is its best feature. Tip: When wrapping, put about 1/8” between the vent holes and the edge of each new layer. I tried to put that in one of the photos. This will make it last all the way to the top of the handlebars. I was lining up each new layer right next to the first row of vent holes, and the strip ran out too soon at the top. I had to un-wrap and add that gap, then it was fine. ... show more

  • High quality tape for your high-end road bike
Color: Gradient Color
I have a Trek Emonda road bike painted Purple Flip. It's a chameleon color that changes from blue to purple. I've been using black bar tape on it. I recently found this bar tape while looking for some cheap tape for another project. I was surprised to see they had it in a chameleon color. You get two rolls of bar tape, 84" long each, two compression-type aluminum end plugs and two strips of finishing tape. All of the items feel high quality. The bar ends are aluminum which is unheard of for the price that the bar tape sells for. The tape itself feels like a premium tape. It is 3mm thick and 30mm wide making it thicker than typical tape which provides a nice cushion. The base layer is a white foam rubber with an adhesive strip. The top layer is made from a soft, flexible material. It has a fabric-like texture and is soft and grippy. The tape wrapped really nicely. There is enough tape to do both sides of my 42cm drop bars with about 6" to spare. The tape pulls tightly and the top layer does not distort when stretched like some two-layer tape does. The finishing tape is thick but feels like electrical tape. I didn't use it. The bar end plugs are great, too. They are compression style plugs and are made from aluminum. Much, much better than the push-in type plugs you typically get with off-brand bar tape. I am happy with this tape. It is a premium tape that feels right at home on my high-end road bike. ... show more

  • Nice thickness, perfect length
Color: Red
I ordered this tape for my road bike after my previous tape started to peel away. The product arrived nicely packaged and seems well made. Included were two rolls of tape and two end plugs. It did not come with finishing tape. The tape has "breathing holes" along one half its length. The idea when wrapping the tape around the handlebars is to overlap the part of the tape that doesn't have these holes so that the finished effect is breathing holes throughout. Just take care when applying the tape that you start with the non-holed edge facing the direction your coverage grows as you wrap the tape round and round. Be sure not to change direction around the shifters. I used electrical tape to finish the job at the handlebar stem end, and for added measure put a zip tie around the electrical tape. I found the tape to be quite thick and well padded. The end caps have an expandable core which you tighten with an Alan wrench, which is a nice touch. Overall, my bike looks great and I'm happy with the product. ... show more

  • Good enough, grip but not quite "tacky".
Color: Purple yam Color
Great while wrapping, easy to keep tension in tape. It looks great either way you want to wrap it. I think after a week the grippy-feeling subsided, but it's still effective and my hands don't slip at all. It's a textured grip just not slimey if that makes sense. Overall I think this tape is worthwhile if you enjoy the colors, I will update with a picture of a finished wrap I did. If anything changes, or if the durability is bad, I will update. ... show more

  • Really like this bar tape.
Color: Black
I have two road bikes and ride approximately 60 miles a week. I’ve been trying to do some light servicing of my bikes and figured that bar tape was a good place to start. I watched numerous videos and liked the fact that if I totally screwed it up the bike was still rideable and I could keep trying. This tape is very forgivable and easy for me to work with. It feels great while riding and feels just right as far as sponginess. I recently had a bike rebuilt by a master mechanic and he replaced my bar tape and I can tell it is a premium tape but it cost 4 times what this tape does and for the money I would consider this to be a good value. ... show more
