Description

In the Alpha board game by Bicycle, players control a wolf pack, leading wolves on a search for food. The Near Forest includes easier to catch, but lower value prey. The Far Forest has larger prey that are more difficult to attack, but if successful can result in great reward. You will lead your wolves through four stages of the hunt: 1. STALK - Send your wolves to hunt in various regions of the forest and outnumber rival packs to become dominant in the area. 2. CHASE – Roll the dice for the region to determine the success of the hunt. 3. RESOLVE – Enter conflict and decide whether to fight or share food with other packs in the region. 4. ADVANCE – Move your wolf on the food track to indicate the amount of food secured during the hunt. At the end of 5 weeks (rounds), the wolf pack with the most food will be declared The Alpha.

  • Original Idea & a great game!
Our family loves this game so much that we have bought 2 additional ones to give as gifts to others. We've had ours for about a year and a half. Things we love... 1. It plays up to 6, which is great for larger families like ours & those who play games with friends. 2. The wolf pack figures are really cute and fun tactile element. The game board and set up is unique and the cool design stays on theme. The "Prey" pieces have a base of heavy duty cardboard which seems like it will last quite a while. (Side note:We did take a white sharpie to one of the darker colors and decorated that pack since it was hard for us to distinguish too similar of color tones between different packs.) 3. Completely original game story line & objective! This game can be played by chance or by strategy. We love that you are playing for your own pack to win, however, there is plenty of interaction with the other players and trying to figure out what the others will do. There is probably more I could say, but will stop there! Thinking through typing these comments makes me want to play the game again! ... show more

  • Fun family Game
This was a great game, I bought it as a present for my son (age 11) who loves wolves. The quality of the board and game pieces is good, not cheaply made. The gameplay was straightforward, not to difficult to learn, but fun.

  • Good game for the price
This is a decent card game. The quality of the game is incredible... I mean, it is a Bicycle product. The game was fun and had a nice theme and is fairly quick/light. However, I don't see playing the game very often...

  • Very fun / quick game!
I was introduced to this game a year (or so) ago, and had only played it a couple times. I recently started gaming with a new group, so I decided I'd get my own copy. So far, it's been a hit with my new group! If you like strategy games where you can either cooperate or dominate (your choice!) that also don't take an entire day to play, this is an excellent game to add to your collection. ... show more

  • Remember it’s for 3 or more players
The game is well made and not to difficult to learn. I neglected to see that it is for 3 or more players, though I tweaked it to make it work for two. Delivery was fairly quick. Price was not bad for the games. I ordered two - one as a gift.

  • fun for the whole family
A well thought out, fun game for the whole family. Not too complicated but enough to keep it fun! Adults had fun along with the 7 year old (after a couple games she could play independently). Now a family favorite!

  • Easy to play for teens and grandparents
I got this game because I was interested in a prisoner’s dilemma game. For me personally, this game is harder to play because It needs at least 3 players. On the other hand, it is good for a larger group. The game is simple, send out members of your pack to hunt for different prey. Whichever player has more wolves for a prey rolls the dice. If the dice are blank - no luck and all go home hungry. If there is a success, then the player with the most wolves takes the prize. Unless there is a tie. Then players secretly choose to FIGHT or SHARE then simultaneously reveal their choices. It more than two players choose FIGHT, then anyone who did not choose fight splits equally the food. However, if only one chooses FIGHT, they take everything. And if all choose SHARE, those players who had the most wolves, or the “dominant” wolves split equally, leaving other players empty-handed. This is fun an all the first time and maybe subsequent times but when players tend to play nice…it's less fun. This game works well if you can play with different groups of people or even different combinations, or if players are brave enough to FIGHT and lie at opportune moments. I was able to play with players age ranging from 14 to 86. It is fairly simple, teachers math and probability, helps players practice their poker face. The components are nice, though the colors are hard to differentiate. I would recommend playing in a well-lit area with true white light, and to check the dice for the C value which is unique to the animal. I found that keeping the die on the matching animal card helped limit confusion. Of the two games by Bicycle that I have played (the other being Crystallized) I prefer this game more. ... show more
