Description

Buying a new or used car should be fun, like getting a new skateboard or a new doll when you were a kid. But it’s not. It’s intimidating, long, stressful, and you drive away feeling that you spent too much, or have buyer’s remorse and think you didn’t get what you really wanted. Burl Johnson bought cars and felt the same way you do until, at the age of 35, he started selling cars, 40 a month, before managing salespeople in four dealerships in a successful 28 year career. He has personally trained and coached hundreds of salespeople, and desked tens of thousands of deals. You buy a car maybe one every two to four years. Professional salespeople do it for a living every day. The deck is stacked against you. With the information in this comprehensive book, everything is put out in the open, and what you find may shock you, and sometimes find it amusing. Expertly written and easy to understand, you are guaranteed to save hundreds, and more likely thousands, with no more effort than a few well placed words, and the necessary basic negotiation skills. He even discloses what a salesperson makes on your sale, and what they earn a year. I have never seen that in a car buying book before. And finally, he humanizes the process, so that you will walk in their shoes, and in the process, have more fun with your salesperson, and get them on your side as your advocate, instead of an adversary. It shouldn’t be any other way. This is a must read. Read more

He himself admits to lying to some car salesman neighbors to get a truck at a loss to the dealership . The author was a born salesman and fit right into to the world of a quick smile and knife in your back approach to maximizing profits for themselves and the dealership . So read it and believe it for when you buy a car you are rubbing elbows with the best legal pick pockets in America . ... show more

  • Dated material
Format: Paperback
I gained two insights and yes, they helped me make a better deal but as far as this author's claims, he overstates the value of this book. Much of the information didn't apply to my shopping in Southern CA. Online business has really changed the process and this book should better reflect that.

  • This book has it all in it!
Format: Paperback
I've recommended this book to many others. A friend of mine purchased it a couple of weeks prior to car shopping for his wife. He told me that it was so much easier to deal with the salesperson at the dealership and it helped him get the deal he wanted! The book saved him a lot of money, just as promised. It explains, in detail, all about the car buying business from both sides of the fence. I am a former employee of the same dealership where the author got his start in the car biz. I am surprised at how much I forgot about the wheeling and dealing, I thought it was a fun job but not one I would return to for obvious reasons you'll find as you read the book. When people find out I am a former auto sales person, they come to me with questions about buying vehicles. It's as if they believe we have secrets to share, and we do--they are in this book! It uncovers the truth about dealerships, salespeople, profit centers and what it takes to get them to assist you! This is a good read for anyone buying a vehicle or for someone contemplating getting into the automobile business. I didn't expect it was going to be so entertaining to read. Burl writes like he speaks, the honest truth with a little humor thrown in once in awhile. That keeps things interesting. ... show more
