Bought this system for a bit of fun and was surprised how good it actually is. First cool thing, while it includes a rechargeable Lithium Ion battery like your cellphone has, you are also able to take that battery out and just use 3 AAA batteries instead, so depending on your situation, that may be easier to do. Second, the buttons actually feel pretty good. I've played other handhelds like this and the direction buttons in particular tend to be REALLY bad and will hit directions you don't mean to press. Not an issue here. All the games are fairly simple, but all of them I've tested so far still play just fine, so my only real negative is the screen itself. It's a little hard to explain, but the screen feels like it's a misoriented LCD display, as the colors are a little clearer if you turn the system 90degrees to the right. That said though, it doesn't really cause any problems playing the games, just a little oddity worth mentioning. Overall, yeah, I can see some kids getting use out of this. And heck, I'll be keeping it around on road trips and the like. ... show more

Got this for my almost 4 year old son, "A". We play a lot of video games as a family and A idolizes his almost 7 year old brother, "T" (both are August birthdays). We got "T" his own, more expensive handheld console for his birthday, but we knew "A" would beg for one too. "A" is super rambunctious and still pretty young for a more high powered handheld - we opted to buy this for him as an affordable option so he didn't feel left out compared to big brother. I have to say, what a great value! The console is small and light weight - a little cheap feeling but you get what you pay for. It's the perfect size for a 4 year old's hands! The screen is very clear and bright. The controls and menu are a little confusing at first, but once you figure them out it's not too bad and becomes second nature. I only wish the full game list included a picture/screen shot of each game since a lot of them seem to be named random things (Tetris is named Russia - things like that). So it takes some guessing on the games. However, there is an abridged pictorial menu you have to go through before getting to the full game list which helps. Honestly, my kid is so obsessed with Mario that he'll see the Mario Bros. picture and immediately pick that option every time anyways. But if you're interested in more than just Mario, there are still a TON of games - they just take a little exploring to figure out what's what. Overall, don't go expecting a super high end piece of equipment but do expect to get a lot of quality games and a surprisingly bright and crisp screen for the money. "A" is not going to see a real difference between his console and his older brother's, which makes this a perfect and more than worthwhile investment! ... show more

I got one of these for my son. Both kids liked it so much that I bought another for my daughter. Unfortunately, the screen was broken upon delivery. My daughter is disappointed. I'm debating if I should even try again.

So after having this for a month or so both the handheld console and battery have held up well. For a 5 yo boy this is great. Essentially a handheld emulator, it has Original Mario and a few other popular classics (most are renamed badly or are knock off versions, (One if the games on the selection menu “Russia” opens to a gimmicky Harry Potter version of Tetris) but once you figure out which is which it’s good). A few games (like angry birds) are more touch screen games and don’t play well or at all on a analog format. ... show more

This was bought as a gift for my nephew. He enjoyed it a lot but you have to choose English instead of Chinese when you play. There are lots of games but most are pretty similar so it would actually be better if there were only the original 15 or so games. That would make it easier to find the one you want to play. Also the buttons and case are made of cheap plastic and the box it comes in shows it’s a knockoff but for the price it works great! ... show more

I recognize the sounds the games we played years ago (um... a few years, let us say) and it is a sweet reminder of those times. The screen is very tiny, which doesn't matter to my 9 year old grandson who is fascinated and figured out how to work it on his own. I only gave 4 stars because we did order red, and it came in blue. Lots of games which gives the kiddos a nice selection, however in the selection... the game concept is the exact same just different graphics. I will say it is durable and does keep my kids attention for about 30 min before they get bored.
